Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but although STV isn't doing much yet beyond overlaying the small '60 years' mark, there's a much nicer ident going out on STV2 this evening to mark 60 years, combining clips and old logos.
Celebrating the 60th birthday is a little complicated for STV, because:
a) Showing old idents would involve showing idents which are completely irrelevant to a hefty chunk of the audience, who received Grampian. It would also involve putting the wrong name up on screen, because for a lot of its life the station was known as Scottish Television and is now shortened to STV - this is not like ITV.
b) Showing old programming would involve the same problem, because a lot of it would only have been shown in the former Scottish Television region.
c) There's still a lot of ill-feeling about the loss of Grampian amid some in the north.
Under those circumstances I can understand why they went for a muted celebration on the main channel, albeit wish they'd worked on a way round it. On the other hand, STV2 has a miniscule audience and a similarly miniscule budget, so I imagine the opportunity to fill some hours with some nostalgia programming which is already sitting in the vaults would have been leapt at. It also means the station can say it's not ignored the anniversary.

They've certainly managed to use every combination of their name imaginable over the years haven't they? Scottish Television, STV, Scottish TV, perhaps the next rebrand will be S Television?
