It is tho, like it or not STV absorbed Grampian into its services. It essentially owns Grampians francise so therefor its now your station.
When any company takes over another they don't forever keep on celebrating the achievements of the company they took over, especially when they completely absorb the company and remove all traces of its previous name.

I know how you feel but unfortunately its the way ITV works nowadays. I'd LOVE to have the real Central/Anglia/Yorkshire back (Its great living in a triple region Razz ) but I know it will never happen nowadays.

Yes I will be but I know the response I will get!!

I can NOT understand how the bosses at STV would think to run a 50th in the Grampian area.........it does anger me greatly when Grampain's 40th was never mentioned in 2001 by smg with exception of a small feature on North Tonight.........is there NO one to speak up for the North in this company?????? Evil or Very Mad

I won’t. Since when have Grampian viewers had to make a long distance telephone call to complain about their local station. You used to be able to phone and write to Tullos. This is yet another job that has been quietly moved from Aberdeen to Glasgow.
The forty years of Grampian ident was made, but they never broadcast it. However, they are currently running irrelevant birthday idents on Grampian. Everything about STV is based around the likes and dislikes of a Glasgow audience.
Note how they are struggling with their “50 Golden Greats” competition. In order to run it in both regions, four of the eight questions so far have been about High Road and a further two related to Taggart. It just demonstrates how few Scottish Television programmes were actually shown on Grampian.

Well I am sure that the Glen Michael thing was never shown on Grampian and there was £7000 question featuring that one!!!

So there was a 40 ident made - I had wondered that!?

I remember we got a 2 minute spot on North Tonight. There were some presenters past and present in the old larger studio at Queens Cross having some sort of cocktail reception (SMG pushed the boat out and provided sausage rolls too!!!!).

It was the same when they ditched the Grampian name last year...I contacted the press office and they said there would be NO special programmes to mark its passing but there would be a special feature on North Tonight. Well it did NOT happen - I was told that other stories that day took prefrence.

I think it is an insult to the North of Scotland people that they are being allowed to control us like this.

It was supposed to be a MERGER of Grampian and Scottish in 1999 that was the first of many SMG lies that were to follow!

Unfortunately, Glen Michael was BRIEFLY shown on Grampian on a Sunday afternoon (don’t know the year), but dropped like a hot potato as it was so unpopular. It was a case of blink and you have missed it. I would be very interested to learn how many Grampian viewers actually entered that particular competition, they were certainly disadvantaged, as Glen Michael was shown on Scottish for 26 years.

They can't win, can they?

I understand completely where the Grampian viewers are coming from - it does seem a little bit like revisionist history - but the easiest thing for STV to do to avoid all this would have been to ignore their 50th birthday completely. And we would have been complaining about that.

Given the current resources there was no way they were going to reintroduce split continuity for this period.

Given the fact STV Glasgow have a full time news reader and camera crew available on a daily basis (unlike Grampian), to produce a video blog for the benefit of central belt viewers on their website, then they obviously do have the resources. The fact is the suits in Glasgow CHOSE not to have split continuity, and thereby demonstrated their total disregard for the audience outwith the Scottish Television area.

I honestly would have assumed he was a bit of a nationwide phenomenon.

I'm pretty sure whoever chose that question thought the same. Bit clumsy, but these phone in competitions are a bit shady everywhere you go it seems.

Well I conducted my own poll at work the day after this ran!

25 people from the North East aged from 28 to 56 were asked the question.......only ONE knew who Glen Michael was........I rest my case!!
