The above quote from stv's 2007 Annual Statement. Sounds good. We shall have to wait until September...

In 2007, stv central will be celebrating its 50th birthday. We plan to run a series of reports on Scotland Today and we are currently considering programming ideas, offering viewers a look back at 50 years of stv, from our first broadcast to our very latest. Many of our viewers will appreciate an affectionate look back at our archives and this will be an interesting project in terms of how far we, and television in general, have changed over the past half century. Plans will be confirmed mid 2007.

Is there any ideas yet?

The fire, in 1969 I think, did destroy a lot of early material, including a lot of Scotsport football match footage. IIRC. In the old 405 line transmission days many parts of the Borders could receive STV on channel 10 from Black Hill...Border was regarded as an English station (still is!). Also, IIRC, Grampian and Border rallied round to provide backup programming for STV at the time in the way of feature films etc, which used to be screened by individual companies rather than networked.

sorry if its been mentiond before but do SMG brand scottish as "STV central" durring local programs?
No, that's the new legal name for Scottish Television, and stv north is the new name for Grampian Television. The stv name is used everywhere else.
