Is the blue triangle meant to respresent part of the St Andrew Cross?
If not then its ugly. What was ever wrong in just updating the 1980's/1990's thistle?
Oh I get it now! That's actually quite clever! Kind of like the hidden arrow in the FedEx logo!
I saw it right away, do I win a prize?
I don't think it's nearly as poor as people are making out. Quite clever and versatile, if anything. Just a shame that it's also reminiscent of iPlayer, but it's hardly anyone's fault for there being a triangular element to the flag.
The new idents look good... and the logo is contemporary, with a few (intentional?) nods to the past for those of us who appreciate these things.
But I really don't get what STV are up to at the moment.
Please don't get me wrong, I'm all for more Scottish programming for Scotland. In many ways that's about rebuilding the damage done in recent years.
But..
*How can opting out of the FA Cup to timeshift the repeat of Dancing on Ice make commercial sense?
*How can opting out of Lewis make commercial sense? (A programme that made the cover of at least one tv guide and which will be getting sackloads of publicity in the national press.)
*How can wknd@stv make commercial sense?
There are plenty of weak links in the schedule which STV can quite properly and sensibly strengthen. But some of their decisions seem eccentric to say the least.
This week Lewis is being replaced by two original Scottish productions - fair enough, I'd just question the exact place that they're going. But next week they're opting out of a prestigious drama to show... GREGORY'S GIRL. A lovely film for sure... but, heaven help me, it's nearly 30 years old now!!!
It sounds more like a war with ITVplc and a declaration of independence than a move to boost the schedule.

I putting money that STV will be moving this to a Wednesday when England get Football matches! what else would there be for STV to broadcast on wednesday nights?

It full of Scottish television MADE cartoons and shows it cost next to penny to make.
The only complaints about the changes are to Dexter Series 2, but saying that there also a number of other programmes being held back form Sunday nights.
I love the new idents. The flip-book effect is great, and I love the imagery.
I wasn't sure about the S logo to start with (three years ago), but it quickly grew on me, and this adaptation with the stylised flag is clever.
I also like the tune used in the idents - although truthfully I will miss the current lot.
As to STV dropping network things from the schedules -
Piers Moron - good riddance
Al Murray - what's his appeal anyway?
Lewis - never watched it
English footy - ditto
I'm prepared to trust that they know what they're doing. They've bucked the trend in terms of revenues and viewers, so I reckon someone's judgement has proved to be good up til now.
Have a wee read of STV's recent results. Total TV advertising revenue was well down. However they did manage to attract more local advertising which helped compensate for the drop in national revenue... which, in fairness, is closely linked to ITVplc's predicament.
And the drop in the value of STV on the stock market over the past couple of years has been catastrophic. It's now worth barely £15 million! Win the lottery and you could buy it!
Again, of course, lots of media companies have had a dreadful time but STV's shares have performed worse than ITVplc's or UTV's.
If I was a major investor in STV, I'd be wondering just what the team there have done over the past couple of years. Sold off assets to clear debts... and continued to see the share price plunge.
At the end of the day, the shareholders are caring about the commercial performance and how the share price is doing... not whether certain moves made by the team at STV may be the right things in other respects.

Surely that *is* bucking the trend?
Viewing figures are up, and local advertising revenues are up.
good on stv making some harsh but much needed decisions.
lewis, al murray, etc were dropped from the schedule as nobody in scotland wants to see them - something thats made clear by folk not watching it on the stv player or on the channel when its being broadcast.

I believe Dexter series 2 Will be shown in scotland, when there can found a slot for it.
