I know that Fremantle no longer own Channel 5, Viacom do, but I wonder if Channel 5 is the location for this programme?

Doesn't work like that, it's simply a case of what facility can accommodate a programme's needs and if it's within budget. (If you're referring to studios)

If you're referring to studios, Channel 5 can't be the location because it doesn't have its own studios.

Even its owner Viacom doesn't really have any studios now, following the redevelopment of MTV Studios in Camden.

The only other studio MTV/Viacom had was in Leicester square, but not sure if that still exists.

Fully aware, was being general to explain that.

Hasn't been there for quite a long time. It had actually became a Nickelodeon store for a while (so Viacon clearly still owned it), but that had gone last time I was there too.

It's Hotel Indigo now, and I believe the studio is now a bar/restaurant.

Also, who owns what CAN influence what is commissioned by whom. Pearson TV (now FremantleMedia) produced loads of shows for Channel 5 through Grundy and Thames when it was a shareholder.

I presume Camden Lock is effectively just playing out the various MTV channels now? I know they effectively demolished where the old TV-am studio used to be in favour of new offices (and they repainted the apparently protected eggs on the roof) but I seem to remember they were forced when they bought the building in 1993 to retain the TV-am facade which they effectively immediately covered up. Looking at it on Street View the last time the Google van went round there seems to suggest the building's had an accident in a paint factory and grew some grass up the walls. It's fairly, um, distinctive.

Yes its had a lot of work done over the last 10 years, but I far prefer it now. Fits in with the colourful surrounds of Camden.

The studios were either demolished or converted into offices. Channel 5's Elephant House Productions is based next door in a former Camden Brewery building called er.. The Elephant House.

If Channel 5 ever wanted to do a daily live programme such as a breakfast show they'd have a brilliant location in Camden Lock.

I only know Camden from wandering around on street view but it always looks really busy pedestrian wise, so either its genuinely very busy or Google only ever goes round it on a Saturday. Still it's the closest we'll get to Bernard's Watch in reality Wink

I imagine it's a bit more than that, does Viacom have any other premises?

They didn't cover up the facade, but they did cover up the very large TVam lettering at each end of it

It looks nice, a lot better than what it replaced, although of course it was a shame to see the original frontage go.

Of course if you click on the date taken bit at the top left of street view you can go back in time and see what it used to look like

They had premises in Rathbone Place for Nick & Comedy Central, but they appear to have moved into Hawley Crescent. I'm not sure if they still hire office space for Channel 5 at the Northern & Shell Building? News moved to GiN.

Yep, they're all based from Camden now.

Yep, they're all based from Camden now.

A key reason for the closure of the MTV studios and conversion to office space was so that the other Viacom channels could move in.
