Last nights show was very odd in a couple of places. The research work was patchy and slightly confused.
One the one hand you had some great footage of the original Dutch show that the Gen Game was based on, and a side on view of the conveyer belt showing the army of props guys at work.
But then for the Surprise Surprise clip, they rounded on the easy to get hold of ITV50 special last year, rather that the era that Cilla was talking about in the late 80's when the show first started.
And some of the footage appeared to have been sourced from VHS.
Minor blips on an enjoyable 90 mins of Saturday night tv. I'm glad this is on BBC Two rather than Channel 4. It proves when the latter does these kinds of histories, how banging in 9 mins of ads per hour shatters the narative flow.
The show is about how radio presenters made the transition to television, so there's a very good chance he will be.
Given some of the occasionally slack research work in this show, it'll be clips of him at Radio One that featured in the documentary about Radio One during the Radio One Night on BBC Two a few years back.
I don't think the clips have been that bad to be honest. We've seen some classics I haven't seen in a long while. Notably Marti Caine's appearance on New Faces of '86. I seem to remember when I was 5 or 6 watching some variety show on BBC1 with (the now late) Marti Caine. Think it was on in replacement of Wogan for a while.
Anyway looking forward to next week's show. These documentaries sort of remind me of BBC2's I Love.. seasons.

Could this have been called something like Joker In The Pack? I'm sure I remember it as the title of a comic variety show with Marti Caine presiding over events.
I'm not sure, I think it was definately filmed at TV Centre around the early nineties. Think it was also during the time, sadly when Marti was suffering from cancer.

A lot of shows do that. It's usually the producers being cheapskates and using the VHS preview tapes rather than paying for the transfer to a broadcast format.
Terry Christian really doesn't like Chris Evans does he. Ironic when they compared Chris Evans' career to that similar of Simon Dee's.
Loved the classic Noel's House Party titles and footage - that brought back memories.
Mike Smith almost broke down in tears when congratulating Noel's return to TV with Deal or No Deal. What was that all about? I take it they must have had a tough time when The Late Late Breakfast Show had to finish because of the 'incident'.
Nice to see Sir Tel giving a talking head. I may have to rephrase that, but you know what I mean.
