Ive just got the DVD of Still Game (Series 1), It 'NEVER' gets shown south of the border but I (well my parents) have sky+ and I taped an episode from 'BBC1 Scotland' (channel 700 and something)
Its really funny, were missing out down on this south of the border. I get lost a little sometimes with the accents but its nothing major.
My question is why have they always resrcited it to up north only???
I feel the same about BBC Wales' High Hopes - by far the best sitcom the BBC have produced in the last few years and IMO it deserves a national airing.
It be far better than another bunch of repeats of Only Fools and Horses - or at least a screening on BBC3.
Probably because other people in Britain wouldn't understand what they're saying.
Thats just an excuse they use, my friend
according to my knowledge, Chewin The Fat series 1+2 have NEVER been aired on TV below the scottish border. Series 3 did get shown on the 'english' BBC1 Areas at about 11.50 at night
but series 4 did go out Nationwide
I think Still Game is brilliant and I'm glad the beeb have come to their senses and decided to show the show nationwide because to tell you the truth the BBC are in desperate need of a good comedy that World according to Bex had to be the worst BBC sitcom I've seen in a long time.
Apparently the new series of Still game that they are making is to be shown across the UK. The BBC have asked them to cut back on the slang and speak more clearly so England can understand it better - surely this is part of what makes it funny?

I don't think they ( the BBC ) will ever understand, yes as you say, it is partly how they speak that makes it so popular. I'm sorry, but Scotland is not a complete alien country, they will just have to get used to the accents. I know I was sympathetic to this issue a week or so ago, but it would kill the show if they had to change the way they speak !!!
When Series 4 is due to start, can someone please post here so I can set the SKY+ to tape it from BBC1 Scotland??
Just that I know the BBC too well and know when they say 'Nationwide' showing they mean 8.30pm friday in scotland and then 2.30am on tuesday morning in a years time for the rest of the country
Oh and as for the slang/accents, I can understand 'fluent' English/Scottish/American/Australian/Welsh can't everyone???
