I always liked watching his shows whenever they were on - they were certainly better than all the dull ones over here. It shocked me this morning when I heard it on the radio.

Yes, Steve risked his life a few times but he always managed to escape easily. He was well-trained so it wasn't just a stupid man running into some crocodiles.

This sounds like a freak accident to me. Stingrays only kill a small number of people. At least he died doing something he enjoyed.

Condolences to his family and friends.

I find it sad that someone like him had to die and already people are arguing over whether or not it's his own fault. It was however a freak accident but I would not say that he deserved it justbecause he wrestles other animals and appears to be careless.

When I normally watch one of his shows he would combat the animal not like a vicious attack but he would pin it down as to keep it under control.

I already know Steve Irwin is an environmentalist and that he would never kill an animal but as for someone who risks his own life so many times in those programmes he was very careful on how to avoid getting eaten by one and he must be one of Australia's most respected people.

R.I.P. Steve Irwin.

Hear hear Daniel. I totally agree.
I gather Australia has gone into 'Diana 'mode - and for once I can understand it. I was fortunate enough to visit his zoo. It isn't like many of ours - no cramped cages ...lots of wild open spaces and animals roaming . And you can learn all about the various conservation projects that the Irwins were funding. I hope his wife continues the work - I am sure she will. As I said before - the tv (and the 'larrikin' persona) were all to put Australia and conservation on the map...never for personal gain. ( The Irwin family lives at the zoo - not in 'celeb' luxury.)
In a world where you can be famous for hanging around a house for 13 weeks doing bugger all - this is one famous death that deserves abit of respect I feel.
Famous people die every day - but not many have contributed as much as he did . Crying or Very sad

That's extremely saddening news to anybody. I'm shocked as I was diving with stingrays on the barrier reef just days ago. It's very odd though that the only other person to have died froma stingray attack was in 1945, very ironic that it had to be Steve, unless he had provoked the animal (which isn't exactly doubtful).

What happened to Steve Irwin is like being stabbed in the heart
- Is this quote from a professor highly inappropriate given the circumstances or was it meant to be like that???

Well if you're daft enough to spend your life around dangerous animals then you're rather asking for it.

Stupid t****r... yes you... man have a bit of respect. You ever met Steve? Proabably not.

Ha!

The day you show respect Damian, you'll be the one in the wooden box.

I'm sorry, but this was always on the cards for Mr Irwin. I've never been a particular fan of wildlife hosts who insist on jammbing their thumbs into the back passages of crocodiles, or insist on lifting snakes up when they are clearly attempting to hide. If anything, it encouraged youngsters to go and seek deadly animals and annoy them.

I agree with Jenny that, sad a loss to his family thought this is, it was only a matter of time.

I respect alot of people.. its just you don't deserve my respect.

Why not?

My thoughts are with the Irwins.

Some of you people are so insensitive.

So you know the names of his wife, children and all the rest of his family, off the top of your head, without going to Google, then, do you?

I'll take a pound to a pinch of crocodile droppings that you don't, which means your thoughts can hardly be with them.

I didn't know it came in degrees, I thought it was rather more all-or-nothing.
