Steve Irwin has been killed while filming a new documentary about a barrier reef.

He was stung by Stingray and was pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics attended.

A great loss to both Television and Nature as he was a great man who obviously cared deeply about the natural world!

Well if you're daft enough to spend your life around dangerous animals then you're rather asking for it.

Does anyone else want to say it, or shall I?

Makes you lose all faith, sometimes.

He'd managed to survive this long without being eaten by one of his crocodiles, so he wasn't that daft.

It is sad though. He may have been a complete hatter, but the way he presented his wildlife shows was absolutely captivating.

erm have some respect please, what he did was a job that entertained millions around the world, whether you like him or not he has still lost his life and left behind a wife and children.

A sad loss for wildlife presenting. he did run risks, especially dancing his baby son in front of a croc but he was very entertaining and opened up the world of wildlife to a whole generation of children.

Don't be insensitive jenny, we all run risks in our lives. Somebody who drives down the M6 everyday is hardly stupid for being killed in a car crash.

My thoughts are with his wife and young children

I have to agree with Jenny in the respect that if you're gonna stick your head in crocodiles mouths you're going to die soonish.

It's still a loss though, I am led to believe he did lots of environmental stuff too and someone as high profile as him would have probably furthered a few causes.

The difference being, his career was based on "here I am, deliberatiely interacting with an animal capable of causing extreme death!".

Heck, I wasn't even having a go at the guy particularly, I was just pointing out that he - and his family, for that matter - knew the risks (and constantly played on them, as well). So while it's a bugger when it happens, it was always on the cards.

Pots and kettles.

I seem to recall you [Funky Guy] complaining when Loose Women was cancelled because of the coverage of the Beslan siege.

Ha!

The day you show respect Damian, you'll be the one in the wooden box.

I'm sorry, but this was always on the cards for Mr Irwin. I've never been a particular fan of wildlife hosts who insist on jamming their thumbs into the back passages of crocodiles, or insist on lifting snakes up when they are clearly attempting to hide. If anything, it encouraged youngsters to go and seek deadly animals and annoy them.

I agree with Jenny that, sad a loss to his family though this is, it was only a matter of time.
