Steph's Packed Lunch

Weekdays at 12.30

The menu for todays show is pretty much exactly the same as This Morning - Anton, school girl being bullied, cookery, talk about the news, Pat Sharp who was on This Morning the end of last week.

They have also now swapped out the sofas for individual chairs.

Steph just let the poor caller let her time run out on 4 for a Grand rather than simply prompting her to pass :/

The lunchbox question should be the first rather than last question to at least pretty much guarantee £250 assuming the caller has actually been watching the show...

The show's now been on the air two months; just looked at the ratings for last week which remain stubbornly low - 0.2 on Monday and Friday and 0.1 the other three days.

Yesterday, Packed Lunch started the week with a 0.1 - and lost viewers from Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares (which is rare, even by its own meagre standards).

But apart from that it's a huge success.

It looks like Channel 4 are just trying to wait it out and see if ratings improve or build an audience it seems but I don't think its ever going to come. Maybe they're hoping that if they carry on they can get a 'viral' video and hope that helps to start building an audience? I just don't think this will ever work.

It just a budget-cut version of 'This Morning' done in the north. Same guests, the kitchen with just the odd channel 4 segment thrown in like the one'oclock views or whatever it is.

Steph would be much more suited to a show like 'Joe Lycett's Got Your Back'. The problem there is they have already found a presenter for that and while it's not my cup of tea - it's edgy and different and works really well for channel 4.

Whatever they do though they need to stop trying to create their own version of 'This Morning' because that will never work. Maybe they need to try something different like having local bands on to perform (when covid allows) or doing more newsy serious segments and maybe more consumer rights stuff to play into Steph's strengthens more. They need to do something that makes them more different. It's hard to know what to do with this show though, I mean what audience are they trying to target young viewers or stay-at-home mums? It's confusing.

Honestly I’d get Joe Lycett presenting this. I think the issue with Steph (love her as I do) is just that people don’t really have an opinion either way of her. The show is alright when you watch it.

I’m not sure Joe Lycett would want the gig.

Well, This Morning *was* made in Liverpool originally... Wink
"What is two plus two?" "Rather more than three." "Yes, but can you be more specific?" "The Belgians."

An update on ratings: the show managed to average 0.2m every day last week - which was progress of sorts - but slipped back to 0.1 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week. Audience share is also still well below Channel 5 every day in its slot.

Steph is self-isolating (though tested negative), so Helen Skelton is covering today, will be interesting to see if today feels any different.

Was inevitable considering they still have more people in the studio than you'll find in your local Tesco.
