Can't see it lasting much longer. Caught the results briefly and the winner got something like 80,000 votes. In the late-90s it was Stars in Their Eyes which always set the records for tele-voting with something like a million votes!

A new host can often ruin a show. I remember how big it used to be throughout the Crowther years.

Just to compare how low the votes were this year:

2005 - Elvis Presley - 84,000-odd votes

2000 (Just 5 years ago) - Chris De Burgh - 501,868 votes

I really do like Stars in their eyes as it's unique to any other siinging contest in the fact that they just sing for fun. It would be a shame to see it go as i have watched every single Live Final since it started (I think!)

Certain programmes NEED the original host to stay.

Imagine Blind Date without Cilla, Strike it Lucky/Rich without Michael Barrymore and Stars in thier Eyes without Matthew Kelly!

Cat tries and she nearly gets away with it but Matthew has some extra warmth and connection with the artists and audience each week!

Maybe its time to wrap the series up and merge it with a Celeb-Pop Idol type programme for sound a likes?

Well you say original host but as you probably know Matthew wasn't the original presenter of Stars but Leslie Crowther was. When I watched some of the older episodes on Challenge a few years ago, I always found Leslie to be slow and the show wasn't as lively as Matthew made it and indeed made it into his own show.

I always thought that Matthew warmed and cared (well it showed well if it wasn't) to the contestants where as Cat seems like she is a few steps back from the contestants and also seems like she has some hidden agenda that she is one better than them.

Does anyone know how far in advance they film it, I assume its filmed during the week its broadcast on the Saturday night?

Maybe they cant do too many live shows on a Saturday night, they already do Ant and Dec's Takeaway live.

Would you believe they were recorded in October 2004.

The show is definitely in decline, partly because of daft scheduling. I agreee that viewers should choose the winner each week. However, for obvious reasons it just wouldn't be possible.

I didnt think it was recorded that long ago, the poor contestants have a long wait until the final if they get through.

I think a show as cheesy as Stars In Their Eyes really needs a camp man to present it. Cat Deeley just doesn't do it for me - she's just a bit too 'cool'.

"Tonight Dale, I'm going to be..." has a nice ring to it. Wink

Yes, I can see Dale doing it.
