The show felt more eventful, it wasn't overkill like it is now, and they made it felt like Saturday night TV, with people like Granada's Andrew Brittain saying "LIVE FROM MANCHESTER...." and they'd even fly to the Granada Studios.

Yes, gone are the Palladium-style days. Shame.

Its now just another "reality show" according to ITV. Rolling Eyes

And just incase anyone wants a reminder of the scoreboard....

Something I was discussing with friends at the weekend...

In the early 80s, Channel 4 launched Minipops, a show which featured kids dressing up as pop stars. Rightly, the show was completely slated for sexualising children, both in how they were dressed and the inappropriate lyrics they were singing. It was considered that it would probably attract the wrong sort of adult viewer.

So why has Stars In Their Eyes Kids never received this kind of criticism when they show, for example, a young girl dressed as Kylie in full make-up, and the winner singing 'My Little Stick of Blackpool Rock', a song which is effectively a three-minute nob gag? I'm playing Devil's advocate somewhat here, but given increased sensitivities these days over such matters, I find it quite surprising that this programme hasn't at least raised a few eyebrows, when effectively it's the same idea as Minipops.

Have you seen any clips of Minipops? From what I have seen of the programme, the way they did that made the whole thing look really disturbing and rather inappropriate, it Sexualised things even more and just looked plain wrong. Minipops was on Channel 4 in 1983, the channel being only in it's second year, at the time when the station was supposed to be providing rather Left Wing and rather alternative material and being somewhat more radical then the cosy output offered on ITV.

I can see where you're coming from with Stars In Their Eyes Kids, but SITEK is more Family Entertainment, just nothing more than your average talented kid being dressed up, from what I've seen of SITEK there are more teenagers than what there are Children, which Minipops was full of.

Notice how many more people voted in the finals back then, whereas I think George Formby won with just 50,000 votes on Saturday.

Another celebrity edition last night, apparently one of last night's contestants marked the 150th celebrity appearance so cue montage of celebrities over the years.

Is it even made in Manchester still? Admittedly I only caught the end but I couldn't see any evidence to suggest it was, the endcap just said "Granada", not "Granada Manchester".

Its still made in Manchester. They have never said Granada Manchester on the endcap though.

When will people realise that JADE GOODY IS NOT A CELEBRITY???

She is a pathetic BB hanger-on who should have returned to dental nursing once her stint ended. And to think of all the professional presenters/performers who are out of work because of these so-called reality TV "stars"...
