Yet Duel was excellent - and Mr & Mrs was trash. I assume that unfortunately Duel though has paid the price for it's poor ratings and not got recommissioned.
Ominiously, Duel was not mentioned in the entertainment section of the ITV Autumn/Winter press pack - whilst Beat The Star was.
I hope it does come back - but I fear that ITV killed it before it got the viewers attention. It was far too exposed on a Saturday night being shoved in the middle of bad programmes which erroded viewer inheritance (having to pick the channel back up after a totally unnecessary 30 min advert for Dancing On Ice).
It also didn't help ITV saying it was the new Millionaire, whilst the old one was still sweating it out on a Tuesday night (where Duel should have started out, before being moved around series 2 on to Saturday nights)
I completely agree with you on this. I thought that Duel was a well produced, new format that was scheduled badly. Just because Millionaire and Poker Face worked on Saturdays, even though both started out being stripped across the week, much the same as Weakest link and Deal or no deal started, and are today.
The stripped format works to welcome in a new gameshow series, and people are more likely to catch an episode on the off chance, like it, and watch it again the next day, rather than forgetting about it until the next week, and realising that you've missed it.
This is what they should use the summer for, to really test out programmes, if the audience isn't there after two weeks, then it's time to pack in.

It's just as well that ITV does nearly all of its gameshows really well, but it's a mistake that their best two new formats aren't returning. As much as I'd love to see another Marathon, they do need to be trying new things and sticking with them.
bang goes my chance of 321,
I actully think there should have another Gameshow marth... it provide that ITV needs and the public likes gameshows

Yes but I too agree that they need to be bringing up new formats which might strike a chord with viewers and then, as has been said, sticking with those programmes. That said, there's nothing wrong with a good old Gameshow Marathon from time to time...

Yes. The show reaches the milestone today. ITV have done didly squat, which sums up the channel today. The biggest UK export in donkey years and done nothing, not even a mention in the press.

Thanks for the link.
Slight irony its published in the newspaper that became the first sponsor on the show for three series before Celador pulled the plug after that Rhys-Jones fiasco in July 1999.
Interesting observation,
The couple who won nothing (March 2001) didn't get the first question wrong, it was question 5, also the audience got that wrong as Ask The Audience was used.. Actually, those who won £0 all answered the £1,000 question incorrectly.

To date eight people here have walked away with absolutely nothing. One couple even got the very first question wrong.

What would you have wanted them to do?
Chris does mention that it started in 1998 regularly whenever the prize winnings go over another milestone
