I think that's the idea... YouTube is a sharing community. People aren't taking files and repackaging them as their own presentation website.
Its the same as anything we've had in the past, they've just slapped a flash frontend on it. Yahoo Geocities was a sharing community. Every host that's ever been is a sharing community. Simple fact remains when someone chucked stuff up on Geocities from another site and never mentioned where it came from, they were shot down in flames quickly. Anyone does it with Youtube... and no-one seems bothered, or trots out the 'its not yours in the first place' line. None of the stuff has ever been ours, but people at least used to refer and credit to those who'd done the legwork of tracking it down via aging VHS tapes. How many %age of the Youtube lot do that when 'sharing'.
But I'm not going to continue, as I think the changing attitude of people towards the pres sites now is more a topic geared towards the Media Websites thread moaning about how none of us update anymore (would you believe, there may be a connection between them
).
