Interestingly, the News of the World Sunday TV mag has Family Fortunes down at 7pm. Obviously, these listings are done in advance. I wonder why the change of heart?

To be honest I've never taken the NOTW TV Mag listings as gospel - they're wrong almost every week. It seems they just hazard a guess at what the broadcasters will schedule in primetime and hope for the best!

And ive noticed the NOTW listings for Saturdays often contain TBA. Surely listings have been confirmed for 6 days time - the tv guides which go on sale on Tuesdays would have gone to press before the weekend.

7pm on a weeknight would have been better! Wink

Certainly as long as I remember it (the Les Dennis era) the show has mainly gone out on Saturday nights - usually around 8.15pm after things like Gladiators and Blind Date.

Well I remember it being on at 7pm on a Friday in the late 1980s.

If we're going to go back into history I remember it being on at 7.15 on Sunday evenings, with Monkhouse/Bygraves hosting. After the god-slot normally.

And there was one defining word from the Max Bygraves era of Family Fortunes . . .

Lets hope that this version is not like so many other itv gameshow remakes, where the quality is cronic, and gives older, less watered down versions of the show a bad name. eg like the price is b****y right.

Here's a glimpse of the new look Family Fortunes, as found on YouTube.

(And for old times sakes, the original opening sequence from the Bob Monkhouse era.)

Not liking the red set!

That clip was during the "Big Money" round, when the studio lights are usually dimmed, so the whole set can't be seen.
(It's especially difficult to see it in a blurry embedded Flash based clip on YouTube, even if the lights are dimmed!)

In a way, it's good to see they've brought the game board into the 21st century with a large video screen and modern
graphics. Although it's not so good for poor old Mr Babbage, now they've finally decided to pension him off though!

IIRC, the last time they ditched the blocky old style game board was in 1986, when Les Dennis became the host.

There's one thing they'd better not have got rid of ... the famous "urrh urrrh" sound for wrong answers!

Just watch the US version on the 'net. Far better, the nearest we'll get to the Crowther version, and as camp as Christmas I have to say, all those kitcsch 70s graphics, set, music etc. The 82-year-old Bob Barker is a god!

They seem to be taking the graphics from the Australian version, which work really well. I don't think the old board will be missed at all.

I thought the original idea was to open the new series up with celeb erm i mean 'All Star' versions and then go back to the old format.
