How planned was the overrun then? I would guess 'very'.
I wonder what the deal was. If things were going badly, could Channel 4 and/or the production company decide to take the programme off air at 00:00 as advertised or was it always going to go on until whatever time it actually finished?
What is the thinking behind purposely publishing incorrect schedules? I can imagine some viewers would be prepared to stay up until midnight to see a programme finish but wouldn't choose to stay up until 2am, so they would start watching the programme and before they knew it, it was 2am before the programme finished.
This seems to be a tactic Channel 4 are employing lately. At least two times this series, The Million Pound Drop has overrun by 10 - 20 minutes. Once when the contestants were about to win a large amount of money and last week when it seems they were trying to get rid of the contestants so that there was a clean break between 2 Million Pound Drop last night and the two normal episodes either side. As it happened despite the two extra questions asked during the 'overrun', the contestants stayed in and Davina McCall asked the contestants to come back next Saturday (i.e. today) instead of Friday.
I understand this kind of scheduling is used in other European countries too. Is this something we are going to be seeing more of in the UK?
