So far on UTV we've had a new breakbumper:

We also had a special ident last year so there may still be more to come! Haven't caught any of BBC1NI yet so I'm not sure if they've done anything special.

Happy St Patrick's Day.

RTÉ One CAs are voicing over in Irish, but otherwise the idents and other presentation are exactly the same as usual. Newsreaders are wearing shamrock (although not quite as much as the massive amount the parade presenter is wearing at the moment!).

BBC NI are doing nothing as far as I can see (there is no regional news scheduled past 1pm today). Usually they'd do some parade coverage on Newsline, but given today is Saturday (and the amount of rugby coverage!) they won't be allocated time. They might do something on Bank Holiday Monday though.

I see no St Patrick's Day Kelly show this year on UTV - even after the main show was cancelled, they still usually did something on St Patrick's Night?

BBC Newsline is on at 10.20 this evening after all the Rugby and Eurovision stuff.... and there will be highlights of the parade.

And on UTV, they've given Julian shamrock to wear - only thing is the clever people didn't realise that since they're using a green screen - the shamrock is also keyed Rolling Eyes

So he's wearing blue shamrock.

This is the first year I can remember where there hasn't been ANYTHING special for the day on any of BBC1 & 2 or UTV, though there is some stuff on BBC4 and Radio Ulster.

And no special BBC idents either.

Yes, I know it's the weekend and there's all the rugby and other schedule immovables, but it's a little bit of a shame.

Well the good people at RTÉ Sport had a special treat for us today - after running their usual titles for the RBS 6 Nations, they had loads of shamrocks fill the screen and little flags with the IRFU logo and "Finale" on them, with some trad music to boot.

Pity we didn't win the Six Nations...so near and yet so far...

There's always the cricket. Rain has stopped played but we are ahead on the Duckworth-Lewis System should the rain interruption be prolonged!

It's a disgrace that they only use Irish on St Patrick's Day on RTE!!! And while the CAs speak Irish, the idents are still in English.

They shouldn't bother with Irish at all if the only time they use it is St Patrick's weekend and once a day on Nuacht.

But why would you announce in Irish for programmes which are in English [as all except Nuacht on RTE are]?

On the analogue S4C service, only the promos/slides/continuity surrounding Welsh language programmes are in Welsh.

Stands to reason [?]

I remember the BBC One NI logo from St. Patrick's Day last year. They were green for a brief time. They were lovely.

But for the week before Paddy's day they introduced EVERYTHING on RTE TV in Irish - even though the vast majority of programmes were in English, including News, EastEnders, The Bill etc.

If it's only going to be used for a week every year why bother using it at all?
