Sposorship boards on TV

i.e. sports events (March 2005)

Just watching The Games tonight and looking around the pool it got me thinking - are they actually not allowed to have sponsorship boards around the stadiums as it is a programme, rather than coverage of a sporting event?

The rules may be different for the BBC - I remember their sporting series Born to Win having "Norwich Union" sponsorship boards all over the place!

As it's a TV programme organised by Channel Four it would be considered product placement, which is currently (but maybe not for long..?) not allowed.

Sports events and things like concerts which the broadcasters have less control over are different. Not sure what the rules are with the BBC.
