Spooks returns Wednesday 4th November 9pm BBC One. Can't wait for this, once again only eight episodes compared to the previous 10 episodes of series 2-6. Good to see that the story continues from the cliffhanger of Harry having been kidnapped at the end of series 7. The past few series the end of series cliffhanger has been rather ignored in Episode 1 of the new series. I'm also rather looking forward to the return of one character in particular, as mentioned in the spoiler!

Episode 1 Spoiler;
The team is in a state of panic following Harry's kidnapping by FSB agent Viktor Sarkisian as the compelling spy drama starring Peter Firth, Hermione Norris and Richard Armitage returns for a new series.

It seems their worst fears are confirmed when the Sacred Army of Righteous Vengeance (SARV) posts footage of Harry's execution on the internet. However, Ros refuses to believe Harry is dead and leads Lucas North and the rest of the team on a mission to find him.

When Sarkisian's body is found, it seems they've lost their strongest lead. Ros sends Lucas to try to extract information from new CIA liaison officer Sarah Caulfield but, despite a clear attraction between the pair, it appears she can't assist him. However, help arrives from an unexpected source when former team member Ruth Evershed returns to the grid, fearing for her life.

Ruth reveals that Harry once thwarted a clandestine operation to smuggle weapons-grade uranium into Iraq, and only he and Ruth are privy to its true whereabouts. Now a group of rogue intelligence officers want it back and they don't care who they have to kill to get it.

When Ruth and her family are kidnapped, the race is on for Section D to not only find them before they are killed, but also to discover whether Harry is still alive.

Harry Pearce is played by Peter Firth, Viktor Sarkisian by Peter Sullivan, Ros Myers by Hermione Norris, Lucas North by Richard Armitage, Sarah Caulfield by Genevieve O'Reilly and Ruth Evershed by Nicola Walker.

I thought this series of Spooks was going to be HD - but at the moment I can't see it listed on BBC HD... Very disappointing if that is the case.

This is also what I was lead to believe. Such a shame if it isn't filmed/broadcast in HD, its just what BBC HD are missing in their schedules to rival Sky 1 HD's '24'.

How good was that episode! Sorry to see the end of Malcom's time on the grid though. Very fitting end to his time though as he has been in the series almost as long as Harry ( I think he joined in series 2) . I think we will see more of Ruth though. Really emotive episode tonight, good old spooks!

Once again the end of another series. Not the best series, but the final episode really was another superb cliffhanger, what do others think?

Regarding the future of the show, I read an interview with Hermione Norris in the lead up to Series 8, and when asked about her future, to paraphrase, she thinks all Spooks characters have a shelf life (apart from Harry of course) hinting at her leaving? Was tonight the end of Ros?

Series 9 is yet to be confirmed by the BBC, but lets hope it gets the go ahead!

They would be crazy not to bring it back next year, that was such a good episode and the way it ended. I don't see the point in killing the new Home Secretary unless they plan on bringing back the other bloke from Hustle.

I'm guessing they needed someone Ros could get close to and need to want to save them, and I'm guessing they didn't want to kill of Robert Glenister.
