After watching a couple of programmes tonight, I'm struck by the crudness of the 3 Mobile comedy stings around 'You've Been Watching'. Whoever scripted these spectacularly managed to omit any humour whatsover.

However, the Diet Coke stings around 'Ugly Betty' are great - especially the blowtorched PIN pad one.

I would have posted this topic a while ago, but the ineffectiveness of the 3 Mobile stings meant I couldn't remember who the heck the sponsor was.

Any thoughts?

The current Big Brother sponsorship stings, Lucozade are awful, it tries to be funny but fails measurably.

They're okay the first time. Well, just about okay. The 72nd time round, I almost reach for the cyanide, but pull myself together when I think of how devastated JCB would be if I topped myself. You're right, they're awful.

They are weirdly fantastic. I bet loads of people hate them though.

Yes 3's sponsorship is positively dreadful, tied with Lucozade's measly attempt for Big Brother. And they'll be joined by Carphone Warehouse when The X Factor comes back. Every year they've managed to come back with another mofoing turd. They seriously need to ditch the horrid karaoke idea. It's never been entertaining.

I don't understand the 3 mobile "Aren't Search engines really smug.... don't you mean seands?" one.. and that bloke's awkward "I've just shat myself" smile at the end. What is that about? Confused

Ask Jeeves on Millionaire isn't bad-- I suppose. Glad that they have brought him back.

Whether good or bad, I always think they're far more effective when they make an effort to link them to the programme, rather than just rehashing their regular ad campaign, ala Dreams.

Agreed. Like with Neighbours. Ladbroke's Bingo's hasty re-hash of their normal campaign when they took over the sponsorship was terrible. Now they've thrown a bit more money at it, and the "Aussie Rules Bingo" campaign is actually quite entertaining. Though still not nearly enough to make me want to sign up to play online bingo!

I think the 'You Have Been Watching' sponsor stings are actually trying to not be funny, but they somehow come across as trying to be funny but failing miserably.

The 'Carpet Right' ads that appear during 'House' are quite cheesy and cheap but they at least work. The little girl going 'Is it Lupus....' is quite funny.

I don't mind the Mars Planets ones for Friends on E4, although they are getting a little repetitive, well says the person who watches Friends everyday on the channel. Laughing

I don't mind the BMI Baby sponsorship for 'ITV Regional Weather' in some Regions.

Surely sponsorship stings are just a cue for pressing either fast-forward or play? They don't serve any other purpose!
