It's come to light that there seems to be some issue with regards to the "proper" use of spoiler tags, particularly in the Doctor Who thread but others are included.

The general rule is if you're posting something that is story/character/plot related that isn't already in the public domain (as in broadcast, not leaked (for example I would include the "new" who logo as something that should be spoilered, it may be out there but some viewers still don't want to see it until it's broadcast) then please post it in spoilers tags. Most users, myself included don't want to read a thread about x quite happily then stumble across post y that may or may not be an inadvertent spoiler. Play if safe, if you think it might ruin another users enjoyment of a programme put it in a spoiler tag, that way users can choose to read/view a thread that the poster deams a spoiler.

Thanks Bail. Hopefully this will be the last of the issue seeing as it's so easy to just use the tags.

The only problem, Bail, is that this is a site to discuss TV discussion. I can imagine why spoiler tags are useful in regards to story/ plot/ character related info but where do you extend "the "new" who logo" to? Does that mean we shouldn't post future BBC One logos, BBC News channel studio updates or general rebrand information unless we use spoilers?

Thanks,
House.

I would say apply common sense, but clearly this is sometimes lacking. Obviously a drama/soap story driven show, be it Dr Who or Eastenders could do with a bit of tact in posting. New re-bands.. sorry "realignments" are unaffected.

Sorry Bail, but a rebrand of Doctor Who shouldn't be spoilered. It is a brand re-brand, and not a storyline, series spoiler...

True, but story related things that may not be 'out' yet need spoiler tagging.

Not only have you told the mod "no", you've done that incredibly rude "..." set of ellipses - which sort of says, "I know best".

Nice work there, Martin.

It's common sense - but no way should a new logo be spoilered. If that became the norm here you might as well shut the forum down as that is essentially what this place was originally about, and how anyone can say seeing the new logo is a spoiler is beyond me - especially as in most cases the programme itself will use it in publicity long before the programme airs.

However, I do think posting such things in new threads, rather than existing long running threads, is the fairest way to proceed, meaning those who want to avoid it can, and those who don't aren't forced to highlight the spoilers just to see such a thing.

And on that topic, there are other topics which should get new threads rather than tagged into existing generic threads too. Two examples recently are the BBC announcing the appointment of Julia Somerville and other over 50's - something people not interested in presenter rotas may like to discuss, and the BBC using a different news room over Christmas, which when someone who'd only just noticed asked the simple question of why was met by a rude response of being told to read back through the thread, however many pages that might have taken.

It has to be said I can live with seeing the new Who logo. Nothing hinges on it, nothing is detracted by it.

But in the same slew of leaked photos came the logo and location photography from the new series - and if the pin heads who insist on reproducing things that are on other sites can't tell the difference between one and the other, then perhaps a blanket spoiler-rule is the only way to go - in this particular show.

Why in god's name are people bringing up Sky logos or channel rebrands? What the hell has that got to do with doctor Who spoilers?

Its only the Who thread that there's an issue.

I'd probably take the Doctor Who site as a general guide in this case. Anything such as the new logo, new cast that was posted right on the front page is non-spoiler, anything else that is plot/story related should be considered a spoiler and therefore in tags.
That's my take on it anyway.

Bail's post wasn't just about Dr. Who spoilers. It was also about posting logos.

My common sense says that new logos should not be counted as a spoiler on a presentation forum. My common sense makes no distinction between programme logos or channel logos when it comes to posting on TV Forum. Judging by the replies in this thead, I don't think I am alone in this view.

Just because Bail is a moderater, it is okay to disagree with him - this is not Metropol. It's possible that another moderator and/or Asa might also disagree with what Bail has posted. It seems Bail's post was a knee jerk reaction to something you posted on Metropol and prehaps wasn't thought out or discussed with the other moderators properly before the post was made.

Err... House asked if this applied to channel rebrands and other channel logos.

Ah, so either Bail is acting rashly and without sanction, or he's my bitch?

Perhaps you can ask him which yourself.
