Did you know 30 September is my 36th birthday?

What a co-incidence, my birthday and the final day of Ftn (VF). Not too bothered, I've hardly ever watched Ftn.

I take it Virgin 1 (V1) will be taking its place, will it

I didn't know that - I'll make a note of that.

Oh yes, it is isn't it!

What is Ftn (VF)? Surely it should be Ftn - not Ftn (VF)

If the codes save time, why put the code and the full name?

Ftn is the channel name
VF is the code for Ftn.

Just like "B2" is the code for BBC Two, "B6" is the code for CBeebies, "S1" is the code for Sky One, "US" is the code for UKTV Style, etc. Got it?

There see Greg, you're using the code for Ftn there too now! Laughing

No. Surely logic should cause it to be called FN, or FT, or, for one extra letter, FTN? Rolling Eyes

And V1 is a generally agreed definition anyway, so it's not worth reorganising the coding schema to fit in with anything. And don't claim you invented it.

Anyway, Virgin 1 looks like it's going to be rubbish so I'll be avoiding it deliberately.

He was pointing out the fact that most of the time you'll write "BBC Two (B2)", thereby wasting 8 keystrokes of your keyboard's life and generally making yourself sound like a prat.

If you're going to use these shorthand codes, then please use either the full names or the codes. No mixing and matching or explanations.

And why you can't just use "BBC2" I don't know.

Argh, you know he's winning when he gets page after page of us having a go at his crappy system. Let him to go to his dedicated thread if thats still going and resume talking about FTN going otherwise this thread will go out of control and ultimately close.

Ftn is owned by Virgin, therefore it's a member of the Virgin family of channels, just like Challenge, Bravo, Living etc. Therefore the code for Ftn consists of broadcaster code V (for Virgin) + channel code F (for Ftn) = VF. Get it?

The code for Virgin One will be V1. Explanation: V for Virgin + 1 for One.
