I found it started to decline after the election special. As mentioned earlier on, the celebrity sketches don't really work all that well, and they seem to rely on them more than the politicians. Targets like Elon Musk and Billie Eilish just seem like such unusual choices, and I don't really understand why Elton John has been so prominent. Jürgen Klopp was a personal favourite though, his relentless positivity was a joy to watch.

Yes, perhaps the effort of two US election specials (and saving good bits for ITV) didn't help. Musk and Eilish are at least globally known, but if you were trying to recreate the impact of the original you'd be going for a load of British TV faces.
Their Klopp was great, he was a gift to them. Though even then, the gag seemed to stretch on a bit too long.
There are subtle touches they could do for series 2 that would help. Bring back the heritage theme, considering Britbox's content is largely back catalogue, bringing back that theme would help.
The content should be 60/40 politics with a UK skew. Spitting Image in the past always featured world leaders, but always seen from a British perspective.
Jürgen Klopp was my favourite of the non political characters too along with Corony.
Did anyone else find it was weird they brought back Margaret Thatcher on the episode they showed on ITV? Felt a little like they were living off past glories.

I expect they wanted a bit of continuity with the old series considering that - royals aside - it's a completely new cast (can't recall if there was an Elton John puppet in the original). I thought it was one of the better sketches but I can see why it would look like revelling in the past.
What I don’t think helps is that they’ve often put out the best (usually the Boris or Trump) sketches for free on BritBox’s Facebook page or on YouTube. Quite often when you’ve seen them, you’ve often seen the best part of that episode. This sketch certainly springs to mind when applying the above:
