I noticed Spitting Image episode 1 is on YouTube is some countries. It comes up at the end of the YouTube videos but of course it’s not available in the UK.

Surely if it the US was going to show it, apart from at the very most maybe Boris and the royals it would have had to remove most of the UK centric stuff.

What US satire show has any bite in 2020? I am trying to think of one. Jon Stewart was the gold standard in my view, but he quit in 2015 and handed over to Trevor Noah who ... just is weak most of the times.

Real Time with Bill Maher I enjoy, because it airs on HBO meaning no censorship at all and Bill can go off on any rant he wishes.

Apart from Real Time, there isn't really any good satire on American television.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, also on HBO is probably the go to these days isn't it? With John being British usually gets a better take on big events over here than our own home grown shows.

I think that the show would work.perfectly on ITV.

Surely Spitting Image will air on ITV after Series 1 has concluded? It would be madness if ITV did not cash in, and have them air on ITV or ITV 2 maybe in a few weeks?

I'm sure there will be something, but if the intention is to drive subscriptions to Britbox, then that will be lost if there is an immediate repeat on free to air. If the repeat is delayed, then the topical gags will be out of date. It also depends on who is paying for it.

I suspect Sky's deal with HBO, at the moment, knocks that idea on the head.

Indeed it does air on Sky Comedy, the Monday after airing in the US.

Meanwhile it would be a shame (for those of us who can’t subscribe to Britbox) if we were in a “No Export for You” type situation with Spitting Image because of who’s commissioned it. Hopefully it does get an ITV airing, which I think is the best we can expect at this point.

I don't understand the inference that Spitting Image should air on a linear channel. People don't make the same demand of Netflix shows - it's just accepted that they belong to that platform.

Might it have something to do with the fact its a joint partnership between the BBC and ITV, both of whom have free-to-air channels?

Netflix has never (as far as I'm aware) had a broadcast outlet of their own aside from their streaming platform.

Also people moaning about the amount of streaming services, meaning another subscription and more content than they can watch.

Because it used to?

It's different putting a once free to air programme behind a paywall than never having a show free to air in the first place.
