I know Joe's watching this.... Wink

Get rid of Tara Palmer Tomkinson, Fiona Phillips and Edwina Currie and it could be a better programme.

This show appears to have originated from the USA. In the US they started with ordinary members of the public (like the BBC's show) but ITV being ITV have gone straight into the celebrity pit.

We mustn't forget the first game show ever, though, broadcast on the BBC in 1938. It had pretty much the same premise as this one, and was also called Spelling Bee .

So which ITV regional news studio did they borrow to film this? And an extra ten points for anyone who can spell their answer backwards.

Of course it's celebrity in it loosest meaning.

Indeed.

I think I recognised TWO out of the whole lot.

A pretty dreadful format, though. I gave up half way through the first round.

I don't think anyone has mentioned celebrity. It seems that due to that recent celebrity period on ITV1, every show that has famous people on is classed as 'yet another celebrity show'

Anyway it had Tim Vine on it, which makes up for it!

Think you will find that it was recorded at The London Studios and not The Maidstone Studios.

It's original title was actually "Celebrity Spelling Bee" before the prefix was dropped after the Celebrity Wrestling/Love Island debacles.

Chris Tarrant did mention the C word, at the start of the programme.
I note ITV have dropped the C word, in favour of the S word. Look out for All- STAR Poker Challenge being stripped over a week soon, and STARS on Thin Ice.

Stars quite literally on thin ice!

I think Tarrant referred to them as contestants at the beginning of the show.

The US also did a Celeb spelling Bee. So don't blame ITV for that.
