Ahead of the change of programme on BBC ONE NI a special version of BBC ONE ident was used. The red BBC ONE box changed to green (NI team colour) and a second white (England colour) box with NIL was added on the right.

Has this ever been done before?

Yeah a similar one was used when Wales won against Germany.

You can view pictures of it by clicking here and scrolling down to the middle.

What image did they use in the ident?

Great result tonight - made a Welshman very happy! Operation Lose a Lot is also going well for Wales as we lost to Poland giving them a 5 pt advantage!

And I know I say it all the time, but once again the BBC forget that a number of their viewers are in fact celebrating Northern Irelands triumph rather than mourning England's loss!

It was the standard skateboarder ident, just with added green/white boxes!

Just as well BBC NI did their own Match of the Day programme - and their presentation broadcast live to Northern Ireland from Northern Ireland eh?! I was there... and I still can't believe what happened...!

Wonder if there's any chance of the whole game being repeated, like when England beat Germany and the whole network was subjected to it. You know, when an underdog country in the UK achieves something massive against a far bigger team.

Nope, didn't think so. Should've known better really... Rolling Eyes

Once again, my objection is not with people in England (if Scotland had been beaten by Northern Ireland I'd be calling on heads to role, never mind England), but with the arrogance of the BBC network, and the pundits there (Gary Lineker, Alan Hansen, Ian Wright, your boys took a hell of a beating), who seem to believe the only country in the UK is England.

It is being shown on BBC ONE NI now.

I'm sure we in NI are magnanimous enough not to put our English friends through it again.

But, you are right, the BBC network should be strictly neutral when UK teams are playing each other, whatever the bias of the population towards England over the three other constituent parts.

Good on BBC NI for showing it again. I'll bet you BBC Scotland wouldn't make the same effort. Hell, they forced us to switch between BBC2 and BBC1 to see the whole of the Scotland game after refusing to switch the news, so would they move the schedules for a historic victory? - aye right, to use a phrase.

Without wishing to be patronising though (and people in Northern Ireland can tell me to piss off it they want) - Northern Ireland beating England is, in relative terms, equivalent to England beating Germany or Argentina, if not bigger. It's a bloody massive result - if Scotland had been beaten by Northern Ireland I'd be furious, God knows what it's like for English fans. In relative terms, it's a massive, massive game, and deserves to be repeated. Unfortunately if England win, the rest of us would be subjected to it, while if a nation wins, it's relegated to regional television. Is that fair?
