Look out for a News24 special on BBC1, when the Archer verdict is announced

It's not in - is it?

No, it's not on Sky anyway... What are they planning to do - will it be different from all normal breaking news programmes - in what way?

Verdict unlikely to come today isn't it?

Verdict could come anytime. As far as I know BBC1 will join News24 as soon as the verdict comes , and stay for about half an hour. Most pundits thought it would come yesterday and are surprised the Jury is taking so long.

Yes, I'm surprised really. I suppose it would be difficult to join News24 at this time of day - much easier in the morning/afternoon period.

Today the result would have been interesting as there would have been two major stories to cover - the Archer result and Tory leadership.

There's still time of course though if no verdict jury probably sent home at 4.30.

We'll wait and see - I presume all news broadcasters will have packages ready for either verdict on any charge!

Jury just been sent home for the night - start again at 10 tomorrow.
So next 'event' is tory leadership campaign Round 3 (or should that be 2) in an hour's time.

Oh right - how did I miss that!

Tory leadership contest then - saw News24 and Sky on Thursday last week and Sky's coverage seemed better to me...

It's not a big enough story to warrant a news bulletin on BBC One at 5.35 before Neighbours is it?! They may say in Newsround if it's in by then - and it should be.

The result is out : Portillo out of the race, Clarke 59, Smith 54, Portillo 53. Portillo tells BBC he will leave front-line politics.

Unfortunately yes - being a politics student I am interested in many things! Well, tv and politics at least! Was interesting to see... my sister was watching Sky so I had to make do with Five Live - and very good it was too!

I thought tonight's Ten O'Clock News was one of the best bulletins I have seen for a while - from the politics to the Bush interview and the way they went live to lots of things - brilliant!

Yep, agreed. I thought there was more 'clarity' in the bulletin than usual - and I particularly liked the Steven Sachur (spl?) interview.

Having that, Andrew Marr at the start, Mark Mardell's package on the two candidates, and Robert Hall reporting from inside Concorde and interviewing the pilot made it a really good bulletin.

Sarah Montague did a very good job of Newsnight too in my opinion.

(Sorry - this has veered very off topic and it's my fault...!)

Didn't realise Sarah was on Newsnight - she's much better at that than the main news in my opinion. Strange that both Huw Edwards and the main presenters of Newsnight were off on such a big news day.

Yes, the Stephen Sackur interview was really good and a BBC exclusive (as they kept pointing out!). It was unusual for the Ten to do three lives with two lives not being two ways (ie. just introducing and ending report) - should do more in my opinion. And the political team of Pienarr, Marr and Mardell were all brilliant!

Just realised I've created an additional post encompassing some of the issues raised in here. I hadn't viewed the thread prior to posting!
