This is confusing me a bit.

In Oxford, do the viewers of South Today have a pre-recorded bit with Sally and Roger before the local Oxford news, because I have just been watching a clip, and all the headlines at the beggining were Oxford related.  And then they handed over to another presenter with the oxford news.

So does this mean that the beginning of South Today is different in the original South region and the Oxford sub-opt area, but after the sub-opt, it is the same?

Also on TV Ark, I found these images.

This I think is the original South Today titles

This is a shot from the modified titles after Oxford detached from South East
(looks a bit silly for a region to strech out at the top)

And this one is the Oxford opt-out

Start of the program (first 6 mins or so) goes out to whole of the region, including the headline Oxford opt at the start. The they say and now some localised news, at which point the Oxford titles are played (bottom pic above). Viewers outside of Oxford get the normal South Today bulletin. Then Oxford opt back just in time for the still to come section. And the rest goes out all across the region!

If I'm wrong, I'm sure Isonstine will correct me, as he's a genius at this!!

Speaking as a person that's about to get sub-opted, is there anything to worry about?

I get it, cos when I watch it, I always wonder how it could have so much Oxford news, when it goes out to Southhampton, and the rest of the south.

Then what's the middle one used for then?

Here is the clip that made me wonder, as all the headlines at the beginning seem to be aimed at Oxford, but it is still Roger and Sally saying them.

Actually, I watch South Today quite a lot when I am visiting my grandparents in Hampshire. It seems a bit more brisk-paced than Look North and I don't know if I picked a duff week, but the banter seemed to be non-existent. I think that this was due to someone other than Sally Taylor presenting alongside Roger Finn. It's nice to see that he is still working after leaving Newsround, albeit in possession of slightly less hair! I like the weather lady Dorcas Henry too. She seems to be nice, and I think would keep Paul Hudson in check if they ever met up!

There's another presenter on the website called Pauline Brandt. I didn't see her when I was last down in the region, when does she present? Breakfast? Altogether it's a nice show.

AFAIK (and this is what used to happen unless it's changed). Sally & Roger record the Oxford headline sequence before 1830. This is then played out at the top of the show and then there is about 6-9 minutes of local Oxford news read live from the Southampton pres studio. Sally and Roger do the other headlines for the rest of the region live.
The halves come back together on promos for more generic news for the rest of the programme.

That is correct, the first 7 minutes of each programme are split between the 'South' and 'Oxford.'

After the local news, just after 6:35, the Oxford presenter says goodbye and a sting is played to take it up to the correct point where the presenter says 'Still to come on South Today.' After that point, the programme goes out to the whole region.

This is the trouble with opt outs, you try to explain them in simple terms, but you can't without it getting complicated. Smile

Ok, so which of those titles are played? The one that is posted above played the original South Today titles.

What is that second one then played for (the second titles that Milly posted up in the beginning)?

Image 1 - The original set of titles BEFORE Oxford joined the South Region

Image 2 - The new titles when Oxford became part of the region

and Image 3 - The Oxford opt-out bit.

I agree, the region does look a bit funny with Oxford joined on at the top!
