It'll be interesting to see what the continuity announcement for Newsroom South East will be when Kent departs. At the moment it's always: ‘Now on BBC ONE, the news in London and the South East, with Tim Donovan/Gillian Joseph'. Will the ‘South East' bit remain after South East Today starts, bearing in mind that (BBC?) London (Live/Plus?) doesn't start until October?

I didn't realise that Kent etc departing and London etc getting a new programme title were not going to happen on the same day! I'd have though they ought to.

I understand that NSE haven't ever bothered to remove Oxfordshire from the shape of the region in the title sequence (can you confirm this RW?). I therefore suppose they won't bother to remove Kent and East Sussex until the name of the show changes in October (?). London really are very slack in their attitude. My sympathies for people in the 'Home Counties' are increasing by the moment!

I tend to doubt the London Plus name will be revived, but if the BBC truly haven't decided yet (when for months we were all referring to it as London Live) then it must surely be in the running. As we have discussed before, the obvious London Today/Tonight is used by Carlton, so after Plus and Live, there really aren't any other sensible possibilities.  BBC London?  I don't think so. So it'll probably be London Live.

As an alternative suggestion to 'London Plus', but still acknowledging other areas, how about 'Around London'? Or does that sound tacky? xxJACKxx Smile

I think that Reportind London would be good. Or, they could go for something completely different, such as NI Newsline. That bears nothing to do with NI does it? Or they could just keep it as Newsroom South East? London Live doesn't really work, IMHO.

Correct, I think because no one expected Newsroom South East to continue for as long as it has; it should have disappeared in the spring. There's no way now they'll change the titles to remove Kent.

As for East Sussex, it's currently in the BBC Soutuh region, and when South Today updated their titles last October to include Oxfordshire, they also removed East Sussex.

So for the last year Oxfordshire has been on two lots of opening titles, while East Sussex has been completely missing!

I think they're very keen to include the word 'London' in the title; this was part of the reason for changing the name of GLR to London Live.

I'd be perfectly happy to keep Newsroom South East - there's surely no problem in having two South Easts, after all we have two Look Norths, don't we?

Yes, thats what I thought, with the two Look Norths.

They could have:

BBC London & Home Counties - Newsroom South East
BBC South East - South East Today.

I would like Reporting London though!

'Newsline London' wouldn't be a bad name. If they wanted to be really modern they could choose something like 'London First' (which is a bit crap, I know) or 'London Reports'......but I still think 'London Live' is best!

Yes, I love Newsline London!!

'Now on BBC ONE, Newsline London, with....'
'You're watcing BBC Newsline London. Still to come in the programme'

They work really well. Sorry, they may be differnt down south, up north thats what they say!! (Thats apart from BBC North, with 'Across Yorkshire...BLAH BLAH'

'This is BBC ONE for London (and the Home Counties), and Reporting London, with....'

They all work really well.

Now what about... London and Country? Perhaps that sounds too much like a defunct bus company though.

Interesting that whilst most regions have had long established names since the 1950s or 60s - Look North, Look East, South Today, Midlands Today, Spotlight, Wales Today, Reporting Scotland - the South East has got through so many different programmes. From Town and Around in the 60s, to South East at Six in the 80s, South East, London Plus and Newsroom South East. Then there were 12 years or so (the majority of the Nationwide era) when there was no regional news programme for the South East at all!

Indeed. I grew up in Sussex and didn't realise the BBC did regional Tv until I want on holiday to Scotland. We just go Nationwide for an hour.

I find the title 'London Live' difficult to accept. I think that's because of some ITV regional news programmes, where shorter bulletins are called XXX News, and only the main evening bulletin is called XXX Live (Carlton Westcountry is one example).

So I associate 'XXX Live' with main evening bulletins only. So, to me it would be okay to call the 18:30 edition 'London Live', but all other bulletins would have to be called something else - I just can't quite accept it.

There's just been another South East Today trail but this time at 8.30pm (after Eastenders and before Groundforce - so pretty big audience for it).

How long have regions been doing trails at this time? It used only to be the one at 6.55 didn't it?

Don't forget 1345. After the lunchtime news. Its really annoying, because at the moment, BBC North West have a trail of the BBC Local Radios, Merseyside, Lancashire, GMR. The trail music starts during the end of the end titles to the lunchtime programme and I've been trying for 4 weeks to get a decent end title!! They'd better stop using it next week!!
