It looks like according to overnights it had an average of 4m, with a peak of 4.5m viewers and a 17% share.

It's slightly unfortunate that it was up against SPOTY & The Apprentice on BBC One, otherwise I imagine the ratings would have been higher. I dare say some people might watch Sound of Music Live via catchup in order to skip the ads. Hopefully it's been successful enough for ITV to consider doing something similar next year though.

That's not bad, considering the competition. Maybe doing the original stage version of Annie live next year could be a goer, as in the original version it's set at Christmas?

Well done to ITV for what seems like a successful production. These seems like the new thing in tv to do these live productions. Almost seems like TV has come full circle. When most things were broadcast live. NBC has already done Sound of Music a few years ago. It went over well. Thought critics panned it. The sets were elaborate and it looked good. Though I question their choice of Carrie Underwood as Maria. Odd. Then they did Peter Pan. I didnt watch that one. The ratings were lower and critics hated it. A few weeks back NBC broadcast The Wiz based on the crtically acclaimed Broadway play and the movie staring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson. It was a ratings and critical successful. Great casting and staging. They even casted Stephanie Mills who played Dorothy in the original Broadway production to play Aunt Em. It also starred Queen Latifah, Common, Mary J Blige and NeYo. This production used broadway-style stage sets rather than elaborate sets. It was virtually flawless. I really liked it. Fox is supposedly planning to do GREASE Live! Eek. Not a fan, but many people will compare the FOX effort to NBC's 3 LIVE productions so far.

The musical of Grease really does pale in comparison to the film though.

Just catching up on The Making Of... Gosh, Mel Gideroyc doesn't half love the sound of her own voice.

The "original" musical of Grease that became such a success is filth compared to the film. The original production was even filthier, and hardly seen nowadays.
