Didn't one of them cease handling the puppets because they gave him bad dermatitis on his hands?

But do Granada still own Sooty? As I have a funny feeling that they have sold the rights on to an Independent company. But can anyone confirm this?

They have never owned Sooty. They just had the contract to produce the TV series. Matthew Corbett bought the rights from his father when he took over. He sold them in 1996 to some sort of banking company, with a contract which stated he would work with Sooty until 1998 when he planned to retire.

I think the rights were then sold to Gullane who owned Thomas The Tank, and then HIT Entertainment bought Gullane. The last I heard, HIT were looking to sell Sooty, and Entertainment Rights (Basil Brush, Postman Pat) were interested.

I know it's a bit embarrassing but am i the only one that goes round the charity shops and boot sales picking up the Thames 1989-1992 Sooty Show video sets? They are so funny! I have about 6 now...

I know that at least one of them had the complaint because I remember it caught the attention of Have I Got News For You.

Has anyone ever read 'The Secret Life Of Sooty'? It's a book aimed at adults that's essentially a biography of both Corbetts...

And Davester, you're not alone; I once went through a phase of being addicted to tinned Sooty pasta shapes!!

I have two Sooty tapes from my childhood, which I will probably never throw away, the first one being:

The Amazing Adventures of Sooty (1984/6) This is just basically a few episodes linked together, but they are brilliant, one being when they thought they had a burglar, but it was Sweep eating too much food, one about a Rabbit which they looked after and it ate too much, one about Matthew and Sooty having to do a magic show for a school, but when they are driving everything falls out of the van and the last one is where they do a piss poor Christmas panto, which turns to complete hell for Matthew. But I found it rather good to watch, but the Xmas one scared me a bit.

Sooty's A-Z of Animals (1990) Basically this one is more education than fun, but they did a whole series of these and I assume that they were popular as they had about ten different versions available, both of these were obviously made by Thames Television.

I am certain I have seen a DVD of a 1980's episode somewhere, but I think the focus was more on Sweep rather than Sooty.

I remember a scary episode which featured Matthew staying in a haunted house. That terrified me. Pale

"Sooty and Sweep, a panda called Soo, and little cousin Scampi too"...

That'ts the first time I've ever used the Sooty & Co theme tune to correct somebody. Last too, probably... Smile
