And come January 2020 it will become Sony Movies Classic.

Annoyingly though, they are following the trend of showing a movie news update in the middle of the film, which created a separate EPG listing. Almost every second programme on the channel over the course of a day is a movie news update. Bloody hell.

Apparently Sony Christmas Movies is launching on Sept 10th. I didn't know Christmas had moved to September.

I’m pretty sure they launched in October last year. We might as well get the Christmas decorations out after Easter.

Christmas seems to start earlier each year.

Until fairly recently, Christmas branding only ever seemed to appear in December, but more recently, it started appearing in November, and then October, and it also used to always end on or before New Year's Eve, but I remember it carrying on well into January on some channels this year.

Channel 5 even had most of their schedule dedicated to Christmas programming for a day in August a few years ago.

There must be an appetite for Christmas movies no matter the time of year when you look at Movies 24 airing them through July, for some of these channels it could increase their small audience substantially, so they milk it for what it’s worth. Channel 5 do it, however they had Halloween related made for TV movies until the end of October and then Christmas films from November onwards last year.

Sony Channel weekday schedule:

6am The Waltons
7am Touched by an Angel
9am Highway to Heaven
12noon T.J. Hooker
2pm Hart to Hart
4pm Murder, She Wrote
6pm Charlie's Angels
7pm M*A*S*H
9pm Classic Who Wants to be a Millionaire

No sign of Starsky & Hutch.

Given that the majority of content is from the 1970s to early 2000s I think they should have called the channel Sony Classics - it's nothing like the former Sony Channel.

Due to the success of other channels airing archive content on a constant loop like Gold, ITV3 and Drama, I can see it doing quite well, but I'm not sure the brand is right.
