Surely the reason that Challenge show the "classic" compilations was that they can't show the original episodes, as they included things like the contestant appeals with the premium rate phone number.


Challenge have shown the original first series of Millionaire and just hacked away around the contestant appeals, which included new graphics to cover up the original straps where they couldn't chop it out completely.

Note that at least one, maybe two, series of Family Fortunes had contestant appeals baked into the credits towards the end of their runs and there's no easy way to edit that out - so you just get a strap telling you not to write to an address that ITV haven't actually owned since 2004 Smile Not in as many words but... Wink


Of course, you could just remove the credits completely - Like they did with the lottery game shows.

Challenge have shown the first 4 series in their original format, not just the first one.

They showed the logo in the trailer and it said Classic on it so looks like it will be that.

The EPG listing for 9pm next Saturday does say 'Classic Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' and lists it as Series 2 Episode 1 (however Sky Q's thumbnail has Jeremy by mistake)

I wonder if Sky Q just uses one thumbnail for all showings of Millionaire, whether they're on ITV, Challenge, or Sony Channel? If so, I wouldn't be surprised if this applies to other shows too - like ITV3's Coronation Street and Emmerdale airings (the thumbnail would probably have the current casts and not the ones from 30 years ago).

I don't think so, Challenge's image is of Tarrant. (The current Corrie/Emmerdale episodes update with shots from the episode, while the Classic's just show the Emmerdale and Rovers signs)

Challenge have done that with some other shows as well.


They've done that with episodes of Bruce's Price is Right (to remove the contestant appeal), where the credits start, and then jump to just before the end of the credits.

With some of the other episodes, they run the full credits, with the contestant appeal blurred out.

Just before the UK relaunch, Sony Channel (formerly Canal Sony - which means "Sony Channel" in both Spanish and Portuguese) has relaunched across Latin America (including Brazil).

Quite amusing how they treat WWTBAM episodes as 'movies' - who knew it ever had a 'PG' rating eh!

Also next Sunday you'll have WWTBAM on ITV (then +1), Sony and Challenge all at once! Does Chris receive a few pence in the post for all these repeats still being on air?

It’s so refreshing to see WWTBAM in such high quality, the right aspect ratio, and not chopped like on Challenge. True Entertainment/Sony Channel is the place for me now for classic episodes.

High quality? Does True Entertainment broadcast in a higher resolution and bitrate than Challenge?
