Now confirmed Sony Channel is being replaced by Sony Crime:

https://www.c21media.net/sony-channel-merger-creates-uk-crime-net/

The channel will launch on Freesat a week later than other platforms (13th Feb). Sony are now moving away from pay TV? What will they do with the Sony Channel slot on Sky? Sony have so many channels anyway and they are all are quite poor for such a big brand name. When you compare these to other channel operators like UKTV/Sky/Fox etc. All Sony's channels are quite poor.

The launch of the Sony Crime Channel is already falling apart... only a few days after the announcement that the channel would be available on Freeview, Sky and Virgin their carriage on Virgin appears to have fallen through.

Virgin's logo and channel number have been removed from the website and reports no longer mention Virgin.

Sony probably thought that they could get away with removing pay channel Sony Channel and replacing it with free channel Sony Crime Channel and Virgin would carry on paying for it, but they've since told them to sod off!

I have to agree this change over is in disarray, its Freeview platform is awful, it's Virgin platform is falling apart I dont understand what they're doing. Why are there doing a launch on the other two better channels which most people on freeview will be unable to view it?

Has anyone actually watch Sony channel of late? It has movies which are weekly rotation on sony Movie channel, its not a great channel ...

I haven't kept an eye on the channel, but I have checked the listings. The bulk of the programming is old BBC One drama, paranormal programming that has found a home on TruTV, and films that have been repeated aeons on the Sony Movie Channel.

There is little pay TV value that can be attributed with the Sony Channel, and with its impending demise, saying it'll be missed is an understatement.

As for the Crime Channel, there are now rumblings that True Crime will morph into a second Sony Crime channel according to posters on Digital Spy.

The only person I know who has watched the channel was my mum and that's for the ghost programmes. If I remember it used to be big on "Saving Hope" But of late it really has gone right down hill, its like there given up, with the knowledge the channel hitting the bin.

I wonder if there plans for to rename Tru Entertainment? to Sony Entertainment? thus reinforcing its crappy brand?

So, there actually will be two channels after all.

Sony Channel becomes Sony Crime
True Crime becomes Sony Crime 2
Sony Channel+1 becomes Sony Crime+1

User M60 over on DS, who is incredibly reliable and has previously posted info on channel launches/changes well in advance, so he can be trusted, has confirmed that the above is what is happening regarding Sony/True channels.

And Tru TV.. do they really need 3 crime channels and no "general" channel at all?

Very odd move
