Didn't realise we were on a first name basis.

Funny that, seeing as it was in a chat on MSN messenger in August that you told me your name.

If you'd rather I returned to calling you c@t from now on, just say. Of course, you'll have to call me Mr Green. Razz

I am well aware that other people are entitled to an opinion, and indeed I am interested in yours... though you argue that people are entitled to an opinion on this matter, you do not appear to have one of your own. How odd.

I was disagreeing with your blanket statement that it was 'common sense', when it was actually an opinion.

However my opinion is that I agree with signing being included, but personally, think it's time that a method was devised to include signing as an optional extra in a separate broadcast stream. As far as I am concerned, it's a compromise position that will annoy some deaf and some hearing people in different ways, but it's better than not making the effort at all.

By the way, Paul, my deaf friend, says he finds it useful from time to time. He's not keen on subtitles, because he says they're not always the same as what people are saying (and also, because of the syntax of BSL, that the meaning of what's being said, including people's attitudes can sometimes be more accurately reflected in BSL - for him).

Don't actually remember the conversation, but i'll let you off, Mr Green.

Would agree with the idea that there should be some sort of optional signing service, and I believe Sky were toying with the idea a while ago. Can't really be very long until it becomes de rigeur.

With regards to common sense - I think, taking that term as literally as I can, the consensus on the issue would be to get rid of it. I doubt that the vast majority of News 24 viewers (i.e. those who are not deaf) would care a jot if it vanished or not. This isn't on the grounds of discrimination, some sort of dislike for deaf people, but just because it is entirely pointless for probably about 99% of the audience.

News 24, have just had a small interview with one of the girls' ten-year-old friends. I think that is just plain wrong.

Oh, how easily I am forgotten, c@t. Seems those discussions not long before (and some about) Europride are but a distant memory, c@t.

Well, glad to see we agree on something, c@t.

I can see your argument, but where does it end?
"The majority of viewers aren't black, so there should be no black actors/presenters etc on TV."
"The majority of viewers aren't gay, so why are there any gay characters on TV?"
Plus, at least at the times that the signing is being done, the BBC does provide a non-signed alternative - the BBC1 news bulletin.

five news also dropped a DOG across the BBC's DOG (which, I guess isn't surprising, seeing as we're still talking about ITN).
There's obviously an argument raging behind the scenes about this 'exclusive' footage.

Sky News and ITV News have also shown several interviews with their school friends. What is so wrong about it?

I think its wrong that that vicar likes to trumpet himself as the leader of the community. Why cant he just decline an interview for once? To stick himself on telly at every available oppurtunity because two girls in his town died is just not right.

Anyway, I see the ITV News tonight is once again presented on location, in Soham, by Mark Austin.

And FYI, there's a thread open on this specific topic here

"How long has the jib (pole cam) been in use? I saw it used today during several news conferences today after the decision came down. I must say that it was interesting and dynamic to see during conferences. It was much better than the usual boring single shot. Any other opinions? "

It's a shame that Sky News couldn't get a real Jib out for this story, both BBC and Channel 4 News did in Soham. Poll Cam will never replace a real Jib. The pictures Sky News cut into the presser were wobbling, soft and the colours didn't match the main camera. At the end of the conference the operator swung the arm in the wrong direction to see the Police leave and got his own gloting face in shot. It's an insult to the real Stanton Jimmy Jib and the few, in the UK, who operate it properly

What did ITV News use for their opening shot at 6.30, looking over the fence to Huntley's house, then turning round and swooping down to Mark Austin?

Aren't they easier just dropping ten minutes of Nightscreen? As I don't think anyone would miss a constantly looped Powerpoint presentation.
