I guess a retune will be required - presumably the holding 302 caption is back on the BBC mux. Wonder if they might use the two currently unused HD channels on the new HD mux too.
The Connected TV app now has a Sochi 2014 section with lots of classic Olympic moments and the 2014 equivalent of the "Grandstand Guides".
In hindsight they should have held back the launch of the HD channels for CBBC and CBeebies a couple of months to allow them to be used during the day for live red button coverage in HD.

Don't think that would be so easy. BBC Three/CBBC and BBC Four/CBeebies share a common play out area - which presumably has been upgraded to HD (with the SD services an HD->SD down convert). If you wanted to split the HD and SD services then you'd need additional HD areas and some downstream switching, plus all the channel remapping. Probably quite tricky to justify for a fortnight of Red Button coverage of something rather less significant to many viewers than London 2012.

And the HD versions of CBBC and CBeebies don't suddenly become less worthy because of these games taking place, because by the same logic you could argue they should be taking the services off every time they come around which would just get messy. CBBC and CBeebies must be regarded as more important than a couple of Winter Olympic red button streams and therefore more worthy of the upgrade to HD.
It was just an idea. One of the potential side effects of ghettoing kids TV could mean kids do get less exposure to sport on TV, which isn't a good thing IMO.

I don't see why that would be the case, CBBC now has a regular sports programme 52 weeks of the year which it certainly wasn't able to do before the full-time channels. If you mean it's because it's no longer interrupted by or leads into sport, that's not much of an argument. When CBBC on Sunday mornings used to be interrupted by the Lombard RAC Rally in the late eighties it didn't get me more interested in the event, it made me hate it.
It's not ghettoising kids TV to give it its own channel. It is to put it on a channel where it's not in the kids' section of the EPG and gets taken off for sport. Kids today watch kids channels - but also watch mainstream channels for other things, like how I didn't like Children's ITV when I was growing up but still watched quizzes and sitcoms on ITV.
No surprise that Clare Balding is confirmed as the host for the Opening Ceremony, with Hazel Irvine commentating.
According to the BBC media site Hazel will then do the early shifts on BBC2, with Jonathan Edwards taking over around lunchtime (beginning with the BBC1 shifts during the week), and then Clare Balding hosting from around 4pm and also fronting the highlights.
Always think with the Winter Olympics the morning slot is actually often the most interesting as it is when most of the skiing finals take place. Our best chance of a medal though is in the Skeleton, the final run of which will be on Clare's shift on the Friday.
