Massively lower travel and accommodation costs, and you need far less equipment on-site. The BBC are using standard techniques though by the look of it as they are single camera. NBC Today and CBC are presumably using low-latency fibre as they are remote multi-camera? You don't want delays on that kind of way of working - whereas single camera remotes can cope with it OK.
