I was right in my opinion that it was far too much rubbish to fill the 30/60 minute programmes during the week. They could have had a 90 minute programme on Friday evening showing what had been happening during the week with interviews etc... and then show the match on the Saturday, as they did. That would have been far more entertaining and would have had more of an impact.
But there again, it was all in the name of charity - a real decent one for a change, as well. UNICEF.

Well you could see what it is like when it starts before having an opinion but no that wouldn't be right would it
Surely there will be interviews with the players and training sessions/practice matches etc that will fill the time, you can't expect them to just show the match. That's like Big Brother just showing the evictions!

How can 4 justify hours and hours of s*$t with Big Brother then and atleast the charity benefits with ITV!!!

gave up on BB after series 2 - it is now a tired format - just like all the other programmes in the reality genre. Socceraid is slightly different - if it had only been done differently as an event rather than reality TV.
UNICEF is a great charity (only let down to this was that the legends and stars were paid - it would ahve been better if they had given their time for nothing and give their wages to UNICEF.)

Really? I wouldn't.
The only reason Soccer Aid was put on at this time is that there is football fever around the country for the World Cup. Hence the large % of viewers. If this was done last year where there is no World Cup hype there would be a lot less viewers. It really wasn't rest of the world either, more like United Kingdom (minus England), and countries in a certain radius from it.
Soccer Aid will become a dire and repeated format if done every year. Either 2 years (European Championships) or 4 years will probably be best. The format, now, is a bit repetitive as there was a channel five version done earlier this month or last month, with Angus Deayton, John Barnes and others present as well! What was it, England v Germany?
Having said that, I would like a true England legends match against celebrities or others (a la Carlsberg advert)

Apparantly 6.1 million watched last night's Soccer Aid Live across more than 3 hours on ITV1. That was a 31% share and the second highest programme of the day
With such a high viewing figure as that I'd expect Soccer Aid to return next year

Sky One shows a Legends vs Celebrity match at the start of every season (well it has done during the last 2 seasons). That's always quite good to watch.

I wouldnt be at all surprised if it returned. ITV have a habit of milking every reality show for all its worth - e.g Im a Celeb, CLI

OH
Jez - it's no different from Channel 4 'milking' Big Brother each year and earning millions in revenue from it!
I suppose it was quite sucessful and was for charity and the money made for this can be put into more quality dramas....lol.
I quite like it when ITV1 change their evening schedule - like last week for Soccer Aid and this week for X-Factor. It shows how rigid and boring it is the majority of the time.
