There's a lot of event television coming up on ITV1 in the next few weeks, the next one being Soccer Aid

Soccer Aid
Monday 21:00 to 22:30
Ant and Dec present a week-long build up to a star-studded football match organised by Robbie Williams in aid of Unicef. An England team of celebrities and footballing legends led by Robbie have just six days to shape up to tackle a Rest of the World side captained by Gordon Ramsay in front of a capacity crowd at Old Trafford.

Sara Cox will present behind the scenes coverage on ITV2

and remember its for charity!

sounds dire. Just because it's for charity doesn't make the content any better

Why is it dire exactly? Just because its under the umbrella of reality TV and the done deal is to write it up straight away? I'm personally looking forward to it - at the end of the day it's footy and even if they're all crap we can still have a laugh Laughing

I can't imagine I could watch a week build up to a world cup final, let alone a shabby celebrity match! If it were the match on it's own I'd be a bit more inclined to have a gander, but only to see if Boris was on the subs bench.

I totally agree - a week ot two of build up before a mtach - appalling TV. Could you image Sky Onc (oops Sky One) doing that for the recent pro-celeb World Cup football, or for the old pro's v celebrities match at the beginning of each season. I am a football fan, but I can't think of anything worse that what ITV are planning. BORING!!!!!

ITV see sense and just remove the reality from your schedules, completely, and just leave it for C4 to mess up their schedules with BB, Castaway etc... - that channel is more suited for long-term event/reality TV.(i.e. they no longer have any weekly/daily commitments such as primetime soaps etc...).

Well you could see what it is like when it starts before having an opinion but no that wouldn't be right would it

Surely there will be interviews with the players and training sessions/practice matches etc that will fill the time, you can't expect them to just show the match. That's like Big Brother just showing the evictions!

If it's brilliant tv somehow I'll take retract my comments but for pretty much any celebrity show on any channel that I've seen I have found it to be an appalling watch. I therefore do not hold out much hope for this programme especially since five has already held a match like this (albeit without the filler programming for a week). I admit I'm pre-judging this, but by ITV's standards I think I have a half-decent idea of what to expect

Apparantly 6.1 million watched last night's Soccer Aid Live across more than 3 hours on ITV1. That was a 31% share and the second highest programme of the day

With such a high viewing figure as that I'd expect Soccer Aid to return next year

The final score was ... England 2 - 1 Rest Of The World.

Slightly surreal seeing someone like Robbie Williams being presented with a football trophy though!
