Not the worst 'reality' show but can't say I am particularly orgasmic at it's impending return.

One show I did think was quite good but seems to have gone down the pan was 'Hit me baby one more time' (i think it was called). Hosted by Vernon Kay and featuring popstars from the 80's battling each other to win the series. I thought that was better than stuff like x factor live finals and so on.

Would be happy for them to drop VK if it was to ever return though Wink

Yep, that format had more of a point to it aswell. He did a US series of it too - don't think it got recommissioned, but I think they got to the end of the series!

'Hit me baby one more time' I watched once but didnt think it was any good.

Soapstar Superstar was OK but having a show on every night I find hard to keep up with (thats probabaly why im fed up of Im a Celeb), mind you I managed to watch Big Brother most nights when it was on so I guess it depends.

Soapstar Superstar was popular because the soaps are popular.

The truth though is that Soapstar Superstar, along with Celebrity X Factor and Love Island, were not commissioned on merit but merely with the thought of being scheduled against Big Brother!

The main problem I have with all these "talent" shows though is the judges - there is always someone who thinks they can rival Simon Cowell, but they just end up looking pathetic!

The difference with Soapstar Superstar though was that it was a big hit and managed to beat Celebrity Big Brother every night and it's currently sitting in the list of top 25 programmes of the year

Its only on a week which is much better than Big Brother which I understand will be on much long this time.

That's true! Out of hundred I give Billy Sabbath two, as Mr Cowell would say Laughing

At least Hit Me Baby... didn't have judges, all down to public vote. The people who sang on that show have proven talent (or at least did have Wink ), and it was a good opportunity to get old favourites from back in the day to perform too. A nice bit of nostalgic Saturday-night fluff, doesn't do the singers' careers any harm either.

I think I must be alone in liking Vernon Kay Embarassed He has a quite a jovial personality and a nice charisma about him; he is certainly more watchable and less irritating than the likes of Jane Goody.

Well The Fletch was fab last night, if he doesn't win SSSS then there's no justice in the world!!

Hmm well I reckon Ben Freeman won't be winning 'Soapstar Superstar' series 2. Think he will have more pressing things to be dealing with. Wink

Why can't we have Cills presenting it? Fair enough, perhaps she doesn't want to - but surely she could be tempted?

I see that Martine McCutcheon and Michael Ball are on the panel this time around.

From Digital Spy;

Hollyoaks: In The City actor Leon Lopez is to replace Ben Freeman in the Soapstar Superstar lineup.

Lopez - who played Tank Top in the now-axed E4 Hollyoaks spin-off - will join the remaining ten after Emmerdale's Ben Freeman sidelined the programme in order to fight legal proceedings in Barbados.

"I am really excited and am looking forward to getting on the stage and performing," said Lopez. "I’m sure the other contestants are all really talented, but I am looking forward to the competition and would be lying if I said I didn’t want to win!"

Executive producer Rachel Ashdown added: “Like all our soap stars Leon has a natural singing ability. With these eleven stars this year, it really is anyone’s prize to win. People will know Leon from Hollyoaks in the City and Brookside before that, and just like our other stars, he has a great voice.”

Lopez played Brookside's Jerome Johnson for four years between 1998 and 2002.

Soapstar Superstar begins Friday, January 5 at 9pm on ITV1.

So we have 2 actors from Hollyoaks in the City but no-one from the normal Hollyoaks. Still at least with Leon being in it Brookie will be represented too!
