Do you seriously think the BBC will consider axing it because of one petition randomly sent to them over the internet? EastEnders gets millions of people watching BBC One every night so they're hardly going to scrap it. Rolling Eyes

i wouldn't axe the soaps, just not have it on so many times over the week, at the moment it is sheer overkill.

I don't think it's a question of axing soaps on tele, they have proven themselves as a form of popular culture regardless of your views on them.

I think I agree with Harshy, There is simply overkill of soaps at the minute and in some cases at the expense of spectaluar dramas.
The new controller of BBC One recently ruled out any changes to Eastenders, which in my opinion is a mistake. I beleive it could improve through having less and focusing more on developing good story lines within it, Granted recent efforts have paided off on screen but as we saw there can be this awful dip in a soap when theres a demand for story lines constantly.

I also believe there should be more of a focus on Drama, such as the brilliant Waking the Dead and 20 Thousand Acres under the sky. But I suppose it boils down to one question, where do you make the destintion between popular and high culture on tv?

I don't think EastEnders started going downhill the moment it was launched. It used to be a typical 'knees up mother brown' affair with the strong drama being the backbone of the soap. Whereas comedy is the backbone of Corrie.

It was kicked in a ditch when the Ferrieras arrived and Louise Berridge took over production. The current exec producer has tried to pull it out and has succeeded in recent weeks, but unfortunately this French trip has put it back to square one.

I agree, they need to cut down episodes, the cast need to cheer up a bit. I understand the atmosphere on set is awful.

It will never get axed as it still gets a substandard number of viewers and wins awards - i.e. Inside Soap. So your petition is utter rubbish! Rolling Eyes

I agree, soaps are on too much. Coronation Street wants putting back to three episodes a week and Emmerdale wants putting back to two episodes a week. As for Eastenders, I stand by what I say that just wants putting in the knackers yard full stop.

Please consider signing the following petition to reduce the number of episodes they show of Coronation Street and Emmerdale per week - Webpage Title

At the end of the day while people will continue watching these soaps they will continue to be aired I see no problem with that it makes perfectly good business sense. If people stop watching them axe them.

Other people put polls on here e.g. someone has just put Bes Tea-Time programme on here. Have you had a go at them like you keep having a go at me. I am trying to establish what people like and don't like on television because I have a website full of petitions for people to look at and consider signing and when the time is right I will let people know about it. People come on here and moan about channels and programmes which is why I write petitions out so hopefully people will consider signing them. Why moan about something on television but then moan and refuse to sign my petitions. When I read threads on websites it enables me to get an idea of where people's interests lie.
