Should soaps take a break for the summer?

We've discussed about soaps breaking for Christmas like their Aussie counterparts, but in reality they break for six weeks over the summer.

It appears that even on Corrie the script-writers at least have gone on holiday.

While I think soaps themselves would benefit from a summer break, the question is what would take their place?

DEFINATELY a yes from me. It would give us a chance to look forward to them coming back in September, and there could be some big cliffhangers when they ended for the summer, say at the end of June.

ITV would probabaly stick on any old rubbish to replace them for 2 months.

Can't they take a break for a millenium?

You were so proud of that comment you posted it twice?

Anyway, I think they should take a break, and maybe ITV could experiment with more early evening dramas that the BBC have done. Maybe some comedy and more documentaries.

I take it joining this forum was one of them?

I think soaps should take a break over Summer, lots of viewers turn off.

Anyone got any ideas on what should fill the slots.

Remember, it basically has to be cheap!

A couple of suggestions. Repeating Night and Day (which was far better than the ratings it got!) in hourly slots weeknights at 7pm.

Another is having Who Wants to be a Millionaire live every weeknight over the summer.

Tell me you are joking? Id rather they showed more soaps than showed that crap every weeknight.

Ok, I loved Night and Day, but whats the point in scrapping new episodes of soaps in order to show repeats of a soap that was (sadly) axed over 2 yrs ago? It doesnt make sense - at least show something different and not WWTBAM which should have been rested a long time ago.
