That was odd with Brookside, it went very poor around 2001, but then after they got told it was going to be axed it got better, as they could do what they liked, the show got moved to after the watershed so they took full advantage of this as the programme included swearing, violence and drugs, not much sex mind you. They also decided to build up to the very end, ie how they would all leave the close.
Though IMO I still think Channel 4 were right to axe it, as if it would have remained at 8.00pm or on Saturday afternoon's it would have remained the same and probably try to some over the top trick to pull in the viewers.
I always thought it was a shame they didn't get more of the old cast back for the last episode, it was good they got Paul Usher and Claire Sweeney, but they could have got the guy who played Sinbad.
