lol I'm sure that's not the case - but I did think at the time that it sounded like you.

Just listening to the voice-over on the end of the last programme on five, and I reckon Ms Bertram's trying to "out-negggggst" Mr Thompsett tonight!

I find there's nothing that completes a voiceover like a tortuously long pause after the channel name followed by a good hard "negggggst". (although I don't think they bother with the branding so much on ITV) (1).

Am I the only one who finds certain TV voices saying words incorrectly, as incredibly sloppy?

Maybe I've been listening to the word perfect Radio 4 too much, but there are other instances such as one of the BBC Wales announcers who brand the station as "BeeCee Onewales (one word)".

I would imagine he's correct though Wink

Yes I think so. I used to like the way Glen would emphasise the W of LWT so you really felt like it was the weekend. Although I work shifts so it makes no difference to me. But a nice touch nonetheless.

PS Does anyone else think that Glen looks younger than he sounds? But then people say that about a lot of continuity announcers and also people on the wireless I think Laughing

They do indeed - 'Oh you're Steve, you look nothing like you sound' - if I had a pound for everytime that was said Laughing

...and now English
Some people on both TV and radio are so concerned with the noise they are making that they forget to communicate.

Here's a test you can try at home. End of TV programme, audio level of credits fade. Now, shout at the TV.

"Why should I watch what's on next?"

Ok, that's your question now what was the answer?

I don't mind poor pronunciation providing what I am being told is of value, makes me think, makes me smile or makes me do something.

Surely you must admit that Mr Thompsett's strength is in his negggggggst announcements?

Oh, without any doubt.

By the way, does anyone know the result of last night's contest?

I managed to miss Trish's last few links, so don't know the final score.

Nick, I think you'll find it was a draw. Trish and Glen must be the best of mates having worked together for so long on the GREAT LWT.
Although Trish is possibly just a little ahead in term of continuity content. Five let the announcers talk much longer, ITV1 want their announcers to keep it as short as possible.

They called a line judge as it was down to an implied matey wink and a rye smile. Tough call, Ms Betram won by a cute wrinkle of the nose somewhere around 8-ish. Pointing at the right hand monitor cost Glen 4 points as no one heard the point in his voice.

Well we have been treated to the delights of good old ITV continuity this weekend - good old Mr T back on evenings at the weekend where he belongs!

All I need now is to tune in tomorrow night and hear Lippy!

Wouldn't that be nice. Lets start up a petition and lobby for the return of Lippy in peak time.
Once again, great to hear Trish on 5 and Glen on ITV1 at the weekend. I can now get some sleep. When will they grace out screens again, does anyone know? Nick, over to you.
