It seemed to drop into a more normal filmic style for a few seconds about 3 minutes ago - then back to the 12fps jerkyness. I suppose it's an easy way to cut your CGI budget (or at least the CPU time) in half...

Its not terribly easy on the eye but it reminds me of Victorian style flip-book animation, especially with the sepia colouring and visual look.

True but why not just have a visually stunning programme without the judder effect on the actors.
I'm not sure it would work at 24/25fps. There's a lot of rotoscoping going on which wouldn't work with a more naturalistic style.
