It’s a reunion looking back on the show... but it’s not bringing the show back itself. Though Ant & Dec have said they may explore bring the show back for a one off in the future if they can.
I gather this might be part of the Christmas schedules. Cat Deeley is a guest on This Morning in the next few weeks so I gather she’ll be coming on to talk more about that.
To be fair, if they were going to bring a show back as a one off, you wouldn't want to do it with Covid restrictions. Best to wait until it could be done properly
I hope they do a reasonable covering of the first year of the show. I used to watch it back then and enjoyed it, but it's usually virtually ignored. Even during SM:TV Gold we only ever saw a handful of clips from then, the only clip that really gets shown from that first year is them reading the letter from the girl who's dad farts in the biscuit tin, and the clip of Ant failing to unroll a scroll of things Dec was no longer allowed to say about Sabrina.
I wonder if CD:UK will get covered at at seeing as it was effectively the same show? And in fact the original idea of SM:TV was that it was a "build up" to CD:UK, an idea which got dropped very quickly. Though the fact that CD:UK is now owned separately to SM:TV (with Ant & Dec themselves owning SM:TV, but Shout Factory in the US owning CD:UK) might complicate things.
SM:tv Gold was basically a very narrow look at the "glory years" of about 18/24 months of the height of the Ant and Dec era - it also practically ignored anything post Ant and Dec, although there were a couple of sketches shown here and there. As we know H & Claire have been involved in the doc, although how much will make the edit will be interesting but it'll probably be more than they got on the Gold shows
After all the upset from Brian Dowling and the recent Big Brother repeats, you'd hope he would have been invited to be interviewed too.
