SMG is changing its name to stv Group to highlight its renewed focus on Scottish television, following the disposal of Virgin Radio and outdoor advertising business Primesight.

Our core TV business is outperforming and I am confident that the strategy we are executing in regional advertising, content and digital media will deliver significant growth. The new name we propose, stv Group, reflects the company's focus and uniqueness in the Scottish media market," Woodward said.

The SMG board also indicated that trading remained in line with expectations for 2008 and disclosed that the company expected a cash benefit of £10m from 2008 to 2011 as a result of tax planning.

SMG said the stv brand reach is strong in Scotland, with 4 million watching its output every week and the company reported a 26% share for its premier news programmes, Scotland Today and North Tonight.

The company's ventures division has recently signed a major two year contract with Setanta Sports and is planning to relaunch the stv.tv website later this summer, with the same online content rights as ITV.com.

This will enable the relaunched stv.tv site to offer video simulcasts, catch-up and archive services of ITV shows including Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

Other video content available to watch on the site will include programmes from stv's own library, which stretches back more than 50 years, including Taggart.

The new look stv.tv site, developed in partnership with online video platform company Brightcove, will also offer news, sport, entertainment and drama.

Looks as though SMG may start to bring STV back to the way it used to be years ago (hopefully).

The relaunching of the website sounds like a great idea, but they should also focus on bringing back, or creating new, homegrown TV programmes.

At least it's a step in the right direction, Very Happy

Slightly off topic......

Just heard from a friend that some of the streets and Cineworld in Glasgow have been closed and there's a bomb disposal unit......nothing in the news at all about this Evil or Very Mad

Bring back High Road!

It could totally work as a Heartbeat or Monarch of The Glen style cosy Sunday show - it only went downhill when they started trying to be a 'modern' soap. A good pitch could get the network interested!

Other than that, a more entertainment style Moviejuice/Entertainment Tonight show at 5pm could take the fluff (The Film Club etc) from the Five Thirty Show and let it be more current affairs/newsy/sport & weather...

It be to much like Emmerdale. YTV never like HR. only way stv could make the soap would be to have it network, unless that happens there be no money to do this, I learned that the hard way about this

Thanks. Quite an interesting read, just wondering why it wasn't even covered in the Scottish news Evil or Very Mad

It's quite often you'll find hoax alarms aren't covered in the news.

Why? Because if someone has a vendetta against an outlet or store, by covering it, the individual who set up the hoax will gain publicity through it highlighting his / her cause.

Someone doing that to a Pizza Hut is clearly someone with a thing against the firm, not some kind of general terrorist attack and the police often give the press an indication of whether it's something genuine, or some crazy person with a grudge against a firm. I suspect it was the latter, so therefore it was ignored.
