I don't know a lot about ITV and how it is run up here in Scotland, however from my understanding it is separate from ITVplc and is run by SMG. Therefore if SMG want to call their TV staions Scottish and Grampian TV then that's their choice. It's like telling Asda, Sainsburys etc to be called the one name because they sell the same food. Ludicrous!

Quite right. I have tried explaining this to Martin but seem to be confusing him with the facts.
Where do most of the programmes come from? ITV, it may be run by SMG, but they are part of ITVplc, and they should spend their money on content, and leave the running to ITV. That or they should get their own programming.

I think Martin needs help!! SMG own and run two itv stations in Scotland. I think the vast majority of punters up here would like the names Grampian and Scottish retained.
Why should it bother someone who does not have to watch it is beond me?!?
It always has been a part of ITV and still is. However it has always been branded as Scottish / Grampian TV and I see no need for it to change especially as they're moving their HQ to new premises.
Most viewers couldn't really give a toss about what idents are used. Most people I know call STV either "ITV" or "Channel 3"!
I notice a lot of people saying they don't want to see SMG plc being taken over by an English company. So what. I couldn't care less if it got bought by RTL, TF1, ABC or whoever just so long as they produce some decent programmes instead of flogging really badly produced programmes like Scotsport and crap local cookery programmes that we have now.

That's what all the venture capitalists/ITV plc/Viacom/GCap/EMAP etc. are waiting for. Once SMG have sacked everybody and moved to their new offices it'll be ripe for the picking. It amazes me this company is still independent considering the crap job the directors have done with all the companies they've owned and the share price from where is it was 5 years ago to where it is now.

SMG, and UTV, are part of the ITV Network, not ITV plc.

Well I and alot of others disagree........I would like to see a broadcaster (better than we have at the moment I must admit) staying in Scotland have its HQ in Scotland make programmes in Scotland!!
Now before you start I am NOT some sort of crank nationalist who thinks that everything English is bad.........but we should try and hold on to the last Scottish Broadcasting company left!?!

I agree, I personally would like to see Scottish/British companies stay in our hands (well shareholders) but if other people can do it better and they just happen to be abroad than so be it.
The sad fact of the matter is that SMG had a chance of being a fairly decent sized media group like UTV but the directors blew it. It won't surprise me if a bid is made again for Virgin Radio or it's advertising division this year. Once one these "poison pills" are no longer part of the larger group the easier it'll be for ITV plc to swoop and take control of the TV assets.
Hopefully I'm wrong but I get the feeling SMG won't be around in 2-3 years from now.
I'm with Martin. ¾ comes from down south (try to imagine what Scottish/Grampian TV would be like without the programmes from ITV1 - I don't even want to imagine).
By all means, make Scottish/Grampian be owned by SMG and have 'Scottish TV' or 'Grampian TV' in place of (or next to) the ITV1 logo, but they have a lot of improvements to make. If it's true they're not using the new ITV1 presentation, then personally I think it's ridiculous. It's even worse now with all the job cuts.
