Because it is what the rest of the country has. I don't know why, but i've always hated Scottish being different than the rest of the UK when everyone else joined the ITV1 brand. It just seems an embaressment keeping with the original celebrity idents (even people like Pete Waterman and other presenters that are never on are still shown. Rolling Eyes ).

I saw the Trisha ident earlier today.I know that her show is still on ITV in the morning but she has now moved to Five .

SMG should just update the people idents from around Scotland that they launched in 2000.They were very impressive and worked well it was a shame that they never updated them.

I know Enzo Fachinni the former head of creative services worked on those idents along with Mike Prince (NOT) former ATV announcer .STV are advertising for a Promo Producer at the moment yet they axed both Lesley and Alison the last two Promo Producers at Xmas 2003 can't work that one out .

Everyone else has joined the ITV1 brand because they have been forced to. A reminder that UTV doesn't use ITV1 either, and that people in this region (including on regional programmes) still always call the station Tyne Tees. Proof that ITV1 isn't the strongest brand, at least in the North East.

Though I do agree that SMG need to do something about those idents. The 2000 idents were much better.

I think regions vary, ITV1 may work better in some places than others. For example the regions that have had numerous stations over the years may have a weaker brand than say, Tyne Tees. TTTV is a very strong brand. As I've said before very few people in the North East call it ITV or 3 its Tyne Tees, and thats due to the fact TTTV was a very proud station and promoted it as such.

Central Television, although a more recent ITV station compared to some of the others also managed through creative ideas to form a strong brand.

Multi Channel television is no excuse. In a region - where the name is important - good trailers and promotion will work just as well as a united "ITV1" name. People are not stupid, they can read the menus.

I also find the ITV name pointless now, there is very little "Independent" about the companies. ITV Tyne Tees, ITV Granada, that would have been a better option, the best of both worlds if you like. And its not impossible to have the local idents being played out with single continuity announcements from London. It would just mean a few times a day having a pre-recorded "This is ITV Westcountry, now..."

I thought Tyne Tees was called Channel 3 North East for a while?

It was although "Tyne Tees Television" was always on the screen, looking back its been made out to be more of a "logo" than a relaunch: ie CH3NE rather than the TTTV logo. The following idents which had the same music still had exactly the same "Tyne Tees Television" text underneath so I think they tried to make it look like the Channel 3 thing was more of a logo than a new channel.

The announcements also used to say "This is Tyne Tees Television, broadcasting on Channel 3 in the North East"

There was a lot of annoyed viewers over the CH3NE brand. The day after it appeared Century Radio held a special "Tyne Tees" phone-in to get viewer reaction. The controller at the time of TTTV, Peter Michell was present. It was very much 95% Against the new name. The excuse was given. something along the lines of "Well in 1959 the station was called Tyne Tees TV, Channel 8, we're just going back to that idea."

That's interesting, and a ridiculous mistake for the company to make. What I don't understand is why more fuss hasn't been made by the general public about the loss of so many ITV regional names over the last few years.

Well to be fair it wasn't Tyne Tees' idea - it was Yorkshire Television who decided to change the whole thing - why, who knows but they were the parent company.

I have noticed that younger companies seem to when taking over older ones (YTV 1968 / TTTV 1959) they usually push out the older brand for some reason. It was the same with the Northern bus company, OK Travel was slightly older, so when they bought it they ditched its name completely - all of the other bus companies they bought that were younger all kept their name!

I think there may be less of a fuss over ITV1 because it wasn't a sudden and instant change, Tyne Tees was on air as it always had been on September 1st 1996, but the 2nd of September was this "new channel" and I suppose the sudden change is what made people react. ITV1 was eased in, so maybe its become more accepted. Plus the fact you'd be hard pushed to find a decent regional programme on ITV anymore.

There was a very popuar game show on TTTV last year - the presenter has recently come out and said dispite the good audience figures Granada won't let them have the money for another series - because its too popular - regional programmes are not allowed to be popular! And the producers at City Road are just as frustrated as him. Shame but you'd almost think ITVplc is making cheap rubbish in the regional slots so that no one will watch.. I can't think why!

Nice dig on "The Way We Were" the other week too.. "If its not Tyne Tees people were just not interested" said someone in the programme. And good old Mike Neville has none of this "ITV1" nonsense its always "later on Tyne Tees.." good for him.

Scottish TV and Grampian may have terrible presentation, but at least its got a local name in it. I don't mind where the playout is from as long as A) It has Tyne Tees idents and B) decent regional programmes.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the fact that SMG ran ITV1 ECP’s all day yesterday (Saturday). Both early and late shift SMG announcers were caught on the hop. The dulcet tones of network announcer Glen T. advised Scottish viewers Midsomer Murders was at 2.45p.m, only to be hastily corrected by SMG announcer Jim. Evening announcer Annie was also surprised she was being replaced by a skirling female from south of the border. I wonder what happened to the clean feed.

I was going to post on that yesterday but completely forgot! I noticed it at the end of Saturday Night Takeaway. Finally, a bit of ITV1!!

Do be shocked... those annos last night were awful. I usually turn off at the end of programmes on ITV "1".

I did notice the network announcer on the ECP before the Grand Prix.

Didn't watch STV last night. I must say that is a big bonus NOT having to listen to the droaning and flat Annie Scott pity the network announcer didn't do the junction too.Annie is on again tonight she has no energy in her voice and her delivery is poor.
