smg are a seperate company to itv plc - why would they want to promote another company's brand and logo?

True but why does Scottish and Grampian have to be part of a crappy company whereas ITV1 is part of (maybe not brilliant but) a half decent company. It's getting a bit stupid hearing "ITV" News and "Next news update is at 6.30 on ITV1" and stuff. SMG or ITV both aren't going to be bringing in much regional programming so I don't see what Scottish and Grampian would lose joining the ITV brand,

itv plc are no les crappy than smg. its swings an round-a-bouts. you get slightly more regional programmes, we get slightly nicer graphics.

There's one thing about ITVplc's presentation - at least they make the effort. Not being a big fan of the networked 'ONE ITV' myself when it launched, I would much rather be watching the consistant ITV1 or ITV1 Wales than the car crash that is Scottish, Grampian and Ulster.

IIRC ITV PLC own 40% of the SMG group - there not sworn enemies!
It wouldn't be too difficult for SMG to make idents in the new ITV style, even keeping the horizontal logo. ITV only seems to have three or four idents anyhow!

The problem is that they all have that totally uninspiring music with them, the promos look terrible, and the menu isn't at all eye catching. In a word, dull. While I never liked the original 2002 package because of the celebrities, the music and graphic idents/slides were much better than this. SMG may be a bit "all over the place", but the brand names "Scottish tv" and "Grampian tv" have much more local importance than "ITV1". The same could have be said for many of the more Northern ITV Plc. regions, though sadly apart from Granada, the names have been removed.

Well up here in Scotland like it or not the Scottish/Grampian TV brands are far stronger than the ITV brand and most people are happy with it keep your English ITV branding it's NOT welcome in NI or Scotland .

I would agree with that. The current celebrity idents are very outdated and feature some people who no longer feature on the programmes. An update of some sort is well overdue. I would have ITV1 Scottish and ITV1 Grampian because their regional identities are very strong up here.

I would agree with that. The current celebrity idents are very outdated and feature some people who no longer feature on the programmes. An update of some sort is well overdue. I would have ITV1 Scottish and ITV1 Grampian because their regional identities are very strong up here.
